my 06 did this today - spirited driving, dash light on for half a minute, coolant level fine...

It just never happen to me. Both old and new coolant bottle. (old one broke due to defect on the tab, not the sensor)

Fixed Coolant Light...

Ok this is a known issue for all rx8 models. :dunno:
Though this is not a recall yet they are aware of it. For those having no warranty with this I do not know the cost for a new tank and sensor. :icon_no2: I have been taking my car into the dealor a few times for this issue now and of course the light did not come on for them when i was there.:banghead: Then it got worse and stayed on all the time. I went back to the dealor and now they said that this is becoming more frequant and knew about the issue. They ordered me the new tank and new sensor and all is fine now even at high speeds in the 100 degree weather we have been having. :fingersx: Here is the paperwork that someone might be able to use at the dealor to show them it is a known issue and that it is covered by Mazda. :wavey: Brian |

N3H1-15-350L is the latest Coolant Bottle with Sensor, of you are having yours replaced make sure you get the "L", not the J, E, F, G, OR H.
There have been 6 Changes done to this bottle/tank/sensor by Mazda, the word is the L is the "bees knees" and should not give any further issues.....yeah right... |
So I've been waiting on a coolant reservoir for a few weeks now. Dealer says they are on national back order and still doesn't know when they are coming. Truth or dealer BS?
(I'm not sure why a dealer would BS about not having the part, but dammit I want my reservoir!) |
^ pull the sensor plug ... and check it when you check your oil ... id believe the dealer coz these things keep going out i forget how many times i replaced mine and then finally gave up
|
I pretend the light is my afterburner light that comes on when I floor it on the highway, so I don't mind it. I am OCD about broken stuff on my car. I want to fix it because knowing it's broken bugs the crap out of me!
|
lol fair enough but yea idk if them sayin its outa stock is bs or not but it may be coz like i said these things last a few days LITERALLY from my experience

and less money, comes with a new cap. unless you are under warranty. tell them swoope said hi.. beers  |
I just had mine done on an 07 w/ 32K. The dealer has been pretty good to me for many years with several other vehicles. The service writer said that they were on national back order and would take 2 weeks, hopefully. That was 2 weeks ago, they called and replaced it yesterday. Just another data point... Also, I guess they're now trying yet another version - the part number of the tank they installed is N3H1-15-350M - so we're now up to the "M" version apparently...
|
Yes i am resurecting this thread for like the 6th time but what i would like to know is (stupid question) what warranty is this based under? Bumper to bumper or what?
|
Bump to Bumper.
|
k thanks
|
add me to the list.
driving down to socal last week it came on while i was driving on flat and level ground. Pulled over, checked tank.. full. Remembered this thread so kept driving. It came on and off about a dozen times driving down and back. Off to the dealer i go . |
Had the same problem with mine, got it fixed at the dealer monday under warranty, the mechanic told me he'd fixed like 5 the week before.
|
Wow, old thread. I had same thing happen, so consider this a "me too". Dealership topped coolant off at first but it kept happening. Got the sensor replaced under extended warranty ($100 deductible, feh). New coolant bottle included! I can finally see the fluid level now; the old one was so clouded up.
|
Well I just finished visiting the dealer for the coolant bottle / reservoir of death. I had the on and off coolant light this weekend and the coolant was just flushed and replaced recently.
I had a faulty coolant sensor - like countless others. However, it seems they are onto "M" series coolant bottles. The part number I got is: N3H1-15-350M.

Yes, I have seen this many revisions before with some Mazda parts and this bottle being RX-8 specific.
I don't think all the modifications have been because of the level sensor, some owners (in the field) have had the pressure cap neck crack and leak. But yeah, lets hope the "M" series will finally stop all issues. |

Im finally getting mine installed on wednesday after about two months of being backordered, and a few more weeks because of the lack openings for appointments!!
So I take it they also do a complete coolant flush as well?..Because I've been having to top off with prestone repeatedly because of the leak at the neck. I know its kinda sad but Im pretty psyched about it finally getting installed. I guess Im just tired of that dang coolant light turning on :eyetwitch |

I waited about a week for the part, I believe.

I hope so too - cuz my car is out of the factory warranty at the end of this year.

Mine made it cuz I was under 50k miles.
|
hmmm i might have to call Mazda and see because i got 39k on my 06 and i am headed to the nearest mazda dealer this weekend so we will see.
|
isn't the bumper to bumper only 3 year 36k miles? how is your 05 still under it? I've had my light come on twice. Did it last summer, and the coolant really was low: down near the bottom of the reservoir. Topped it with FL-22, and have not lost a drop since then, so it was probably low from when I got the car. I'm somewhat embarrassed that I had never checked it for two years. Last week it came on as I took my favorite on ramp at my favorite speed. Went off as soon as I shifted to 4th and slowed to merge with traffic. Coolant was full, and it hasn't come on since. If it comes on after my B-B is over, I'll just unplug it. Ken |
Ya i got a quote of about $300 after tax and labor... bunch of crap so if i'm under warranty i will get it fixed but no way in hell i am paying that when i can just unplug it...
|
So anyways, i called mazda and they said i still have the warranty, then i later called the dealer and he confirmed it. The next question is will he have to see the light go on? as in go on the highway with me for 10 min? or will the car have the codes saved?
|
i was told that the water pump is crap on the 04 which i have and which my light does come on and piss me the hell off!!!

much better. double check and make sure your coolant is topped off. could be a sensor failure? |

My car's coolant light was not on when I took it in and they replaced it. I have a feeling they can read the codes and it is a common issue. Just mention that you have read online that the bottle and sensor tend to be problematic. |

Yeah, I was fortunate to get the former 4/50K warranty. I will run out of the 4 years before the miles limit. I am hoping that anything that falls apart will fall apart before the end of the year.

So how do you clean the sensor. What should I us to clean it; WD-40, Contact cleaner or any other solvents? |
Nice thread res and whats up with the blue text? Sorry i can't answer your question ;(
|
My check engine coolant light has been popping out off and on the past few weeks. It stays on for like 20 seconds and then it disappears. I'm guessing I should add? This is weird since I just got an oil change and the dealer said they topped off on every fluid.. And the only problem I had was tires.
|
:boring:
|
Check the coolant level after you let the car sit for like 5 hrs or overnight. If the coolant level is at the Full mark then your sensor in the coolant tank is bad.

^ lol it seems like he posted the same question as a bazillion others already have posted on this thread
|
haha ya rotary im assuming you have the same prob... malfunctioned sensor, i believe the one i have is still the best/newest one :) no problems at all with it since i got it fixed
|
^ lol damn.. I'll need to call the dealer then.. Ugh..
btw, what do I say? .. What if they charge me? :( This sucks. |
You are still under warranty right? Just tell them that you get a false low coolant light and that you have read and found out you are not the only one... I barely said anything and the bill was like $17 (overnight shipping)

as far as the coolant bottle is concerned see my post https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...14&postcount=4 my tank problem was the float wouldn't float. |
thats why i asked him if he was under warranty, he said he should be... I wasnt sure because i know that it was the 06's that had a longer warranty then other years.
|
Yea, I'm not under warranty anymore. It ended Nov 09. lol.. FML. I think it was 3 years or 50,000 miles. Hmm.. I only have like 21k miles. I'm still going to try the dealer first and see what they say..
