Question coolant

okay so i drive a 07 Rx8 GT MT it has 56,000 miles i got it when it had 46,000 this spring or summer [forgot exact month] when i first got it i checked the coolant and it was full. today i checked it and it looked kinda empty. like the coolant was so low that if i stuck my index finger in the container i cannot touch any coolant. i am not overheating nor do i have any check engine lights or coolant lights. i dont have a lot of smoke coming out the back only when warming up on cold nights. should i be concerned or is it just normally time to add alil more coolant?

do you smell the sweet distinct odor or coolant? After you get done driving your car, park it, pop the hood and walk around the front of the car and see if you can smell coolant.
you might have a tiny leak somewhere that you hadn't noticed.

it's easier to smell coolant from the front of the car if there is a leak.
I figured we'd test that theory first.

It could be that your car has just gone through some coolant and needs more.
At your mileage, I would recommend a coolant flush.

okay ill keep my nose open in the front.

i can do a coolant flush myself right? kinda low on $$ so any maintenance i can do to my rex myself will be left to me and my buddies.

okay this might sound noob-ish but theres a lil hose coming out the coolant bottle by the cap and its just pointing downward into nothing, is that right?

That little hose is for overflows, if there is to much coolant in there for whatever reason then it has somewhere to go.

must have just used up coolant.
top off the system or get it flushed and just keep an eye on the coolant level.

there is a D.I.Y. (do it yourself) on how to do a coolant flush in our DIY subforum .

But after you top off, after you drive the car and park it, walk to the front of the car on the passenger side and look under to see if green liquid is dripping to the ground.

If I live outside the US, and the retarded dealer doesn't have FL22 Coolant and or bascially nowhere near my area to be found ... can I just top off with the regular coolant from the auto parts stores ?

Rotary: I don't see why not.
I use a big jug of Prestone coolant. Usually the green color is safe for all cars

I wouldn't top off with anything else or you'll at least ruin the 10year life of FL22.

Since it never freezes in Suriname it would be better to just top off with water, and more water cools slightly better anyway.

Getting mixtures of antifreeze that are not compatible these days can create deadly corrosion.
