Compression good but still wont start
 

Ok so as above im have warm start issues but ive had compression test done and there ok I also have a uprated starter new plugs coils and battery so what else should I check.
Also I had issues starting yesterday but it started but my engine light was on so I checked with my AP and the code I got was P0336 crankshaft position sensor A circuit range performance.
The engine light has gone now (on its own) so whats that all about.

I think I read somewhere on the forums people having issues with the Eshaft sensor harness. Did you check that? Unplug, clean, and plug back in?

Do a reset on the ESS and see if that helps. Might want to make sure the sensor face (which is magnetic) is not dirty.

ok il try cleaning the Eshaft sensor harness cant find much detail on battery ground cleaning procedure any tips

Also a clogged cat can give you hard starting problems when warm.

Ok went to go to work this morning ans she took 3 attempts to start which she did in the end but its a little concerning as the engine was stone cold.
I should also note after saying the battery is ok I checked it with my AP and its reading 11.9-12V which is lower then the usual 12.7-12.8V I had this a few weeks ago be I gave it a real good drive and it was fine again would this cause me trouble starting.
Also is it worth getting a second opinion on the compression test.

you have the BHR Ignition ground wire hooked up to a solid ground correct?

Yep I was actually having issues before I put the kit in as its only been in a month.

Ok update I tried the suggested I cleaned the Eshaft sensor , removed the main ground connection and cleaned remover the neg clamp and cleaned , relocated ground connection of BHR ignition kit to main ground point , then i did a cobb reset followed a full reset (hit brake pedal 20 times.
After all this I took her for a run came back turned of left for 5 minutes then tried to turn her over and nothing took 3 attempts I checked the bat voltage and the cobb said it was reading 12.4 which isnt bad (thats without the engine running) so im at a loss I dont know what to think as she had new plugs and the BHR kit fitted last service along with a compression test which came out ok although they never did give me the results.

Small addition to symptoms when I start it tries twice nealy catching then 3rd time no struggle no stammer just boom she starts is that weird cos I can fathom it and it seems the same every time almost like im charging somthing (obviously im not)

Me thinks you should get your alternator checked out.....and..........I really do think you might need a new battery. get that checked as well.

Since you know what your voltage reads on the battery, what's it reading with the car running? It better be about 13.8-14.2 volts.

its actually above 14.2 which pointed me to the batt but today I read 12.4 and she still struggled to start also coming home tonight I slowed at a junction and she almost stalled the batt light came on for a split second well atleast I think it was the batt it was so quick but I reved her up but somthing wasnt right and she was idling low whats the normal idle after warmed up?

Well I know now it looks like the comp test done on service didnt acount for my uprated starter just had another done with the proper Mazda comp tester and it came out at=

Front rotor 6.4 6.6 6.2
Rear rotor 6.0 6.3 6.2

So rebuild time so I was wondering does anyone have any suggestions on things I can do to performance wise whilst the engine is out ie porting or part upgrading (already have BHR ignition kit see my sig)

Hi new to this forum just joined.had an rx8 for 2 years now spent £4100 on repairs,don't get me wrong not complaining brill car when working.Had warm start issues which i know means bad compression.Had the car in main dealer they said low compression after test and engine rebuild needed but mazda only replace the whole unit at a cost of £5000.I was wondering if anybody knew a good mazda rx8 specialist in the north west of england I am based in warrington cheshire thanks

Your best bet is to try the uk club rx8oc uk and ask there but of hand try Hayward north.

Thanks for the advise.Haywood north quoted £2800.Anybody used or heard of siverstone autosports quoted me £2500 to £4500 depending how bad it is.How come the big differents in price ?

Again mate try the uk club this is the us club so noone will know who your on about alternatly try the Mazda rotary club silverstone are traders there.
As for price diff it depends on damage if it's just the seals then it's a strip down clean up replace the seals and put it back together but there is assorts of other issues if it's not damaged rotors damaged housing etc but if your compression is relatively even but low with not many issues apart from starting then it's most likely just seals.
