Cold Engine Starting Procedures
Big shout out from Germany!
Just bought the RX8 in Red!!
Next week I'll be on my way to pick the car up from the shipping port in Northern Germany and hit the "no speed" autobahns!!!
One quick question, the car will have been on the boat for 2 weeks without being started. I've seen various emails on the forum regarding instructions on cold starts, however, I'm unable to locate the exact link. Could someone please shoot me the step by step instructions regarding cold starts? It's a pleasure to be among the RX8 peeps, and look forward to posting pics and sending shout outs to ya from all over Europe!!
Be easy and keep it real.....but remember the Chappelle Show's version!

Won't you have assistance from someone from Mazda when you pick up the car?
In any case, you shouldn't have any problems unless the battery is weak (see below remarks). Turn the key and wait for the dinging to stop, keep foot off accelerator pedal, turn key to start, and zoom-zoom, you're on your no-speed-limit way.
The battery should be OK unless there is an unusual dark current drain in it when idle. Cars with Nav have had this problem in the past. If the battery is weak, you may have to charge it before starting the car.

Congrats on your new RIDE. I'm sure you will love it.
FYI---You shouldn't redline the car or drive it hard until after at least 1000km. So don't go crazy on the no limit hoghway just yet. After that change the oil and drive the hell out of it a few times per week.

Congrats on your new RX-8!
I would be hesitant to hit that autobahn so quickly though. Make sure you follow the break-in procedures.
www.racingbeat.com has them on their site.

So the military has shipped your RX-8 for you? (My uncle used the 1-car shipping credit to bring a Mercedes station wagon back from Germany) You must have been lucky with your timing to buy it just in time to ship it. Did you drive it at all in the US?
More importantly, did you warn the shippers about flooding prior to loading? I would recommend trying to guard against flooding at the port. They might move it off the boat (or out of the container) for you and then shut it off cold (we've theorized that Mazda had such problems at the ports when the RX-8s were originally imported to the US). If you'll be there before they get to the car (or if they let you move it) then no problem, but if they're going to 'bring it around for you' then you're at risk of them doing a cold shut-off and flooding it - you might want to call them about that.
Be sure to report back after you get some exhilerating zoom-zoom on the autobahn!
