Just so you know, it probably won't be a new engine. It will come from the Mazda rebuild facility in Virginia. Don't worry, they do good work. My car has one of their engines in it and it is running strong.
|
oh good stuff.. yur very blessed for it..
i wish my car was runnin... man.. ;( |

Now when i get this thing back.... how should i drive it? Like should i red line once a day like how i used to with my other car of break it in slowly? I know that when you get these things brand new with less than 1K miles on it, i have read posts not to do the redline thing until after 1K miles. What do you reccomend? |

Take it easy for the first 600 - 1000 miles. Do not go WOT, Do not use synthetic oils, do not exceed 4k rpm, and avoid hard braking during this time. Get an oil change after 600-1000 miles.
Make sure the dealer does not put in any synthetic or synthetic blend oil. They did on mine and I made them drain it and put new oil in. Synthetics should not be used during the "break-in" period. |

Not this again....... will post the procedure later.
As for break-in, Mazda states that it is not needed. However, if you would like to prolong the life of your engine, they, meaning racing beat and other reliable sources, recommend not reving past 4000 rpm for 600 miles. I just got a new engine and I followed a more tedious break-in procedure. The procedure I followed is a mix of multiple break-in procedures for rotary engines. During the first 5,000 miles, do not use any synthetic oils. During the First 2,000 miles, do not go WOT. Avoid hard braking. For the First 1,000 miles, vary the revs as much as possible with the maximum rpm of 4k. After 1000 miles change oil and oil filter. For the next 500 miles, vary rpms as much as possible with the maximum rpm of 6k. For the next 500 miles, vary rpms as much as possible with the maximum rpm being the red line. Do not go WOT. You can gradually raise RPM to red line. Change oil and oil filter after 2,000 miles. After that, be rev happy and enjoy. This is a mix between all of the methods I have read. This seemed like a decent procedure to me. Mainly, for the first 1,000 miles, you are breaking in the engine. Rotary's are not your mainstream engines and really need a little bit of TLC. Thanks for the advice :) |
Just wanted to give you all an update.....
I still dont have my car back.... took them 1 week to get the new engine back and next week will be 2 weeks after they had the engine back and i dont have it. I got a call from the dealer today, they told me that the new engine failed. They said that it was becuase they saw that my fuel injection pump was messed up and that is what caused my other engine to blow. Gas was flooding my engine.... how in the fuck did the dealership that i took it too last year did not pick up on this? Im furiousssssssss!!! Buttttttt good thing is that they are still giving me the new engine under warranty which they should have anyways because i brought my car to the dealer so many frigin time they should have picked up on that crap. So now they say i will get my car back next week....so it will be a month later next week that i have not had my car..... will let you all know how she rides when i get her back. Once again thank you all for the advice and the support. xoxoxox |
I wonder how long you have had the fuel pump issue? Might be the source of some of the other issues you have had.
Sucks to be without your 8, but glad you will have a fresh engine after this is done :) |
I'd probably happening all the time. Just that all happens to be slow.
(I kid, i kid ) |

Sucks to be without your 8, but glad you will have a fresh engine after this is done :) But i reather pay $230 for the fuel injector pump then paying 5K for a brand new engine.... dealer told me that i do have a brand new engine and that my other was was completelty shot. So when i get my car back, i need to ask them what year the engine is cuz i am curious.... Its the 04 and 05 that have the most problems with them.... so i am hoping that maybe they put in an 06 or even an 07 engine in there but i doubt it... wishful thinking... LOL :P |

Fuel pump cut out could cause your stuttering issue you have been having. Why it only happens at low speed idk,

^^^
Agreed. That's the dealer again trying to take you for a ride. Definitely stand your ground, get your new engine, and don't consent to the other "services" they are offering. $235 is a lot of money to pay for some cleaning service. I bet you it's just the BG44K in the gas tank trick that they're talking about - "Fuel Injection Cleaning" or some BS like that. |

That sounds like dealer boo cacky to me. Excess fuel being dumped into your engine is normal at startup. The RX8 runs rich, just smell your exhaust when you turn it on. I still don't understand why they didn't replace the torque converter under warranty when you brought it to them many many times. I may be down in plymouth within the next couple of weeks visiting my buddy. If you are still having the problem, I don't mind going to the dealer with you to cuss some fools out :)

UPDATE: Getting my car back today!!! They just called me and told tme that they took it for a test ride yesterday and she is running good! Said they will call me back in a bit to pick it up, they are just doing minor finishes now they said.
jmc23200... if my car still acts up when i recieve this i will most def let you know! lol Also.... this is going to be soooooooooo hard for me not wanting to red line my car..... can i red line just once? LOL Pleaseeeeeeee???? I know you said to take it easy between 600-1K miles and dont go WOT but i want to do it at least once on the highway to feel her move like she should move like her mama... know what im saying???? ;) LOL So honestly can i red line my car just once?????? Also what oil do you reccomend when i do change my oil within the 1K mile period? Should i still use the 5W-20 that is says i should? I have read posts that some are using i think 10W-20 or something along those lines..... |
DO NOT REDLINE THE CAR..........

Call the dealer and make sure the use 5w20/30 CONVENTIONAL oil. You do not want synthetic oil during break in. Damn dealer used semi synthetic when they replaced my engine..... bad bad dealer ..........
