Interesting - I noticed my clutch squeaking a little today. The squek seems to be coming from the pedal area though so I didn't think much of it. I have 19,000 miles on it.

I have noticed a squeak in my clutch to, it happens when it is pressed down the last 1/4 of the way down as well as on the way up. It happens when the car is both on and off. Anyone have any ideas? or has anyone had this fixed by the dealer?

My 2004 maxima did the same thing... It was like the spring rubbing on whatever is was hooked on. Making like a squeaky noise. Never had it checked and had 28K on it. I haven't noticed that on the RX-8 yet.

Come to think of it, my old truck did the same thing. That had over 100K on the clutch. Just sounded like it need to have the spring lubed up.

I could be way off since I am not a mechanic, but that is what it felt and sounded like. The end of a spring rubbing on the inside of the hole it is connected to. I could be wrong though.

The clutch is not supposed to squeak!! The dealer should fix/replace/repair whatever is causing the problem. Talk to the service Manager. Explain how the problem is not acceptable! If the problem continues, demand the clutch be replaced under warranty. After all, it is a $30k car!!

Good luck!!

Let us know exactly what part the dealer replaced and whether it indeed solved the problem.

The reason I say this is that I can't imaging how a master cylinder (that you say is supposed to be causing the problem) can produced this type of sound. Maybe the rubber dust boot at the end of the cylinder is making the noise?

Can you tell if it is coming from the clutch pedal itself (inside the car) or is the noise coming from outside the cabin (under hood or under car). I've had two older Hondas with squeaky clutch pedals. One car was a cable operated clutch and the other hydraulic, both turned out to be the return spring sheaths on the pedals themselves. Post back whenever they give you an answer. Good luck.

Mine seems to be coming from down by the firewall, but I can't tell if it is inside or out. I am taking it to the dealer when I need my next oil change, and I will have them fix this and I will post what they say. I have a few other issues they need to attend to as well.

Replace the "clutch" fluid with a quality brake fluid like ATE Super Blue and bleed the system.

I have the same problem and the dealer tried to fix it 3 times.

The dealer lubed the slave cylinder first, but it didn't work, so they told me to come a week later and they will replace the whole pedal assembly.

When they replaced the clutch pedal, the squeek was gone for 1000 miles and returned with a louder squeek. The service manager had it lubed again, but the problem still existed and he told me he doesn't know what to do anymore.

The service manager then told me that a TSB might come out on a new clutch pedal, but he also told me not keep my hopes up because he was just speculating since so many people have this problem.

**To note: My service manager had a RX8 with the same squeek problem so he was real helpful and he couldn't get it fixed either.

Buy a can of ATE Super Blue, take it to your service manager and tell him to replace the fluid in the clutch hydraulic system. This took care of that same problem on my RX-7. It may not work on your car, but it won't cost you much to try.

clutch worn out in 18 months?????

dear all,

new to the forum, but ive checked it out in the past to see just how impressed people are with the rx8.

i bought mine 18 months ago now, and ive been real pleased with it. i use my car for work which sees me driving about - hence ive covered 28k miles in these 18 months.

the car has been driven enthusiastically, but never thrashed.

earlier this week, the cluch gave up the ghost and i've had to have it replaced. mazda did not warrant this part - hence i'm hit with a £610 bill!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just wondering if any of you guys have had similar clutch related problem - ie, wearing out in 28k miles/18 months. personally, i think this is obscene - i've had other sporty cars that have done 80k miles plus without even a sniff of clutch problems.

mazda uk basically laughed at my problem - stating that it is outside of the warranty period of 9k miles or 1 year.

let me know what you think i should do - do i have a case, and should i fight mazda?

cheers,

tim

The squeeky pedal is just because you need lube on the spring.. Just stick yer head under there, find your clutch and follow it up. Get a can of silicone lube and give it a quick spray. Ive been squeek free for 25k miles now..Dont use WD40, it attracts dust.

My brand new 06 mazda has this problem. I bought it with 11 miles on it and it started to squeak after only 75 additional miles. I am bringing it to the dealership tomorrow to have it looked at.

I had the same problem after about 500 miles on my '06 GT. The dealer replaced the clutch pedal assembly and the problem has not come back.

I have a 03 protege5 and i was having thye same problem. i went to home depot and got silacone lube in a spray can. and spraied the clutch pedal but be sure to cover the gas and break pedal because if you get it on them you will slide right off. this has fixed the problem and no more squeak.

Do a search on DMP. He has a thread here where his clutch springs failed and broke.

Here it is:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=clutch

Since this was not wear but catastrophic failure they replaced it free under warranty. Did they show you the clutch after they pulled it? Were the springs broken? did they show you what the wear thickness was on the clutch vs. the min spec? If not and you've already paid you may be SOL. Let us know what you've got and maybe you can bring that info. to Mazda UK.

Advice for the next time: Anything they tell you is not under warranty come out here and search for TSB's and other existing threads first to ask for advice before you give the okay. It's much easier to fight before they have your money.

For the other folks here is a link to a TSB on squeaky clutches.

Followup- I now have 9500 miles on my new, replaced clutch pedal. The squeak has not returned.
