Thumbs down Clutch isn't releasing..?

Spent a few hours searching for an answer and couldn't find anyone having this problem, and I am stuck on what to do. Basically, my car is having lots of problems getting into gear. My car will only start in neutral, takes much strength to get it into first. Once im driving the car is fine but when shifting its difficult. Getting into reverse is even harder. Sometimes the car will even die at lights if I try leaving it in gear to save the trouble of having to shift at a light. I have to rev it a little to be able to put it into gear. I took it to a shop and they said "the clutch isn't releasing" and wanted $560 to just pull the transmission down and see whats going on.

My car is a 2004. about 98k miles. What could be going on? I love my 8 and really don't want to get rid of it. I just want this to be fixed.

Thanks for the response Charles. Do I purchase a new bracket or completely new pedal? Is this a DIY type of thing?

Just went out and checked out the clutch pedal, doesnt seem like the welds have cracked/come apart at all. so maybe its not the pedal? idk. frustrating.

So you verified the pedal doesn't look like this (or starting to tear around that area):

It would be around the upper-left nut.

From laying down by the pedals, no it didn't look that way. But also its 8pm and I was using a cell phone camera light. Ill look again tomorrow and hope that is the problem (simple fix) rather than something much more complex and pricey.
