I have a 05 6spd Gt with 68k miles on it. Ive taken it to the dealer before and had it looked over (bought it used) and they said nothing was wrong with it. but recently whenever I happen to start the engine cold I hear a loud clicking/grinding noise for a brief second. Other than that it starts fine and runs great.

It only happens right after the car cranks and starts up and I let go of the key. I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from and I was wondering if anyone ever had it happen or knew where I should start looking.

Try starting with the ac blower in the off position....

I think I have the same problem as you, and I happened to try that today, and it seems to fix it....

Could be the starter bendix is not releasing properly.
OR
Could be the Air pump for smog.

 

Forget I said anything..... false alarm...

 

Well I took my car to the dealership the other day and had them look at it. It turns out the noise is coming from the air pump. (It also developed a bit of a whine when first starting as well). I was told it was going to cost about 480 dollars to replace so I think I will live with the noise.
