Clanking over bumps
If I have the windows down and I don't have any music or anything on, I'm just listening to the sound of the car, when I drive on a bumpy road there is a noise almost like a metal clanking noise whenever I go over a bump. I took my car to les schwab and they looked at the suspension and said they didn't see anything wrong. The sound must be coming from somewhere else, and when the engine idles rough and vibrates occasionally I can hear a rattling noise that I think might be the same (whatever it is) thing rattling with the vibration of the engine. Any ideas?

My car was making a small metallic clunking noise over bumps and my dealer tightened the heat shields under the car. The technician also repositioned the exhaust system since its on rubber hangers as well as springs. The noise is now gone. Check out those heat shields and the integrity of your exhaust hangers. Hope this helps!

Is your car lowered or anything? I had "clanking" noises after I lowered my S2. The noise was actually coming from my OE rear sway rubbing against one of the long screws from the chassis near the sway bars (not sure exactly what the screw is). Anyway, replacing my bars with aftermarket and getting shorter endlinks resolved the problem.
