check engine light...please help!!!

Wednesday morning, I drove my car to work without the CEL. When i went on lunch and turned the ignition on, the check engine light came on. So i figured it was just the oil change because it was past 3,000 miles. Okay, so i got a oil change to the dealership and check engine light still on. The dealeship said they could check what is wrong with it but its going to cost me $127. I did a search and a lot of people here said that i should go to autozone to get it scanned for free. I'm going today and get the code.

If the CEL came on when you first turned on the ignition, its more than likely the gas cap.
Give it a couple more turns and allow a couple drive cycles to clear the CEL (or disconnect the battery for 30 minutes).
Take it to Autozone and get the code pulled.
If it comes back that there is a small EVAP leak, it's definitely the gas cap.

Yes... its the gas cap.
Either you didn't tighten it after your last fill-up, or its time for a new cap like Dominion said.

Either get a new revised gas cap OR

take your gas cap out, wipe it CLEAN with a couple piece of bounty towel. u'll be shock of how "clean" your bounty will be.

then just put it back.

Oh your question. that code is a small EVAP leak.

small EVAP leak usually means a faulty gas cap. Cuz when you're not driving your car. the car's computer will pressure test the fuel system itself. it will monitor the fuel tank's pressure for a couple of hours. if there are any pressure lost, depend on how much, will throw you a small leak, a leak, or a BIG leak code.
