My check engine light came on at 5100 miles ... is that normal for the car? is it somekind of maintance that needs to be performed by the dealer? any help is greatly appreciated. i also did check the forums and all i found was maybe a failed cat.

 

No its not normal go to your dealer ASAP , ESPECIALLY IF THE LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING . refer to your manual section on engine light

please read your manual. but NO the CEL does NOT light up to tell you to get regular maintenance.

 

check to make sure your gas cap is on all the way

 

thanks for the help everyone one ... i took it to the dealer this morning and all it wasn't anything big ... they said that they had to update the computer ... also the dealer said that if the light just comes on its not that big of a deal ... they said that when it flashes thats when there is a major problem ... has anyone ever had one flash or is it just something on the 05's thats new?

 

Many have had flashing CEL's. It normally happens at high RPM's and the engine starts misfiring but I'm sure there are other things that would cause it to flash.

 

I got a CEL after the recall work. Autozones OBD2 scanners cant sync to pull the code, and they tried a brand new one.

I had a CEL previously because of the gas cap (cant pump our own gas here, so I check my own cap now) And had the same problem with a scanner not being able to pull the code.

This doesnt seem normal, should the service department fix this?
