CEL on...idling issues

Hey guys.....I started up my car tonight after coming out of the store and my CEL is on. I haven't noticed any significant changes lately, but have been having slight idling issues. At a stop light, etc the car will idle down to 750 or slightly lower and shutter a tiny amount.

I recently replaced the stock air filter with a K&N drop-in, but other than that haven't changed anything. Should I put the normal filter in before taking it to the dealership? I'm still under warranty for 6k miles or so.

I noticed that there is a slight noise coming from the engine when in neutral as well. I couldn't pinpoint the location, but I could hear it while sitting in the car with the windows down. When I put it in gear it goes away. There is also a quiet whining noise coming from near the back of the airbox (not sure if this is the same noise). I heard this when I popped the hood and tried to pinpoint the location of the sound.

I did double check that airbox is sealed properly and the filter is sitting correctly in the box.....I think we can rule that out.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help...

Chris

You can either wait a few drive cycles and see if the computer needs to learn the new filter......which is what I would do. Or, you can switch it back and see if it goes away. The whine, I'm not sure about.........are you sure you just aren't hearing every little thing because of the idle issue?

Also, take off the negative battery terminal for about 15 minutes, then put it back on........that should clear the CEL(if you have no other way to clear it) and then go for a drive and see if it comes back on. If so, go to Autozone or somewhere where they will readit for free and report back.

Oh......and did you get gas while at the store?

It's been at least a week and a half since I installed the K&N and many many drive cycles since. I last got gas on Sunday and have gone through a 1/4 tank prior to the CEL coming on.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm........something else is going on then. Try to get to an Autozone and read that code. At least that way, you know if the dealer tries to BS you. Could be a simple as a plug or wire, but you need that code!

Whining noise is normal.

Check to make sure the air bocx is tight.

Sounds like you have a vaccum leak.

Check the hose clamps on the tube.

Razz................just for my education.............is the whining you speak of the air pump? Does that sound cycle off and on? I know I'm not talking about the A/C pump when I ask this question.

Hey guys...just got dropped back at my place by the dealership shuttle. On the ride back the service dept called at said the CEL was being thrown by the gas cap not sealing properly. They will be replacing the gas cap, performed the latest PCM flash, replacing an interior clip, and installing my appearance pieces today. Hoepfully should have the car back late this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
