CEL but no code

I have a 2004 rx8. I went to autozone this after to get my code for the Check engine light, but the problem is it is not giving me any code. Can you guys help me please? Does anyone had this problem before?

Disconnect the battery for a few hours and then see if its still there.

but if i do that, it wont solve that problem why it came on in the first place
