Hey guys,

I was tried to get my car inspected today, and during the process my 8 through a few codes; P2016, P2004, and P2009. Of course, my car has 88,000 miles and is out of warrantee... I was hoping someone could be of some help on here. Thanks!

Go here, then under "Engine diagnostics and Control", it will get you started, the code list is down a few pages, but read it from the top(is my suggestion).

Seems mainly like you have a APV problem. Maybe the APV motor?

The search function is "up" there for a reason.

First, those codes do not appear in the RX-8 workshop manual, so I would suspect that they were erroneous resulting from using an incompatible reader. Who pulled the codes and what reader were they using? My guess is that it was not a Mazda tech and/or whoever did it didn't use an OBDII CANbus-compatible reader. Clear the codes and don't fret.

Second, the warranty for core engine components was recently extended to 8 yrs/100K miles, so if you had a problem with the engine it would be covered. Of course, this warranty extension is only for engine components, nothing else.

EDIT: Correction: P2004 is, in fact, listed in the manual. See the attached image and go to the link below. The other numbers do not appear in the manual as I indicated.

I believe those are Generic OBD II code. it does exist, and I know what they mean. but OP should learn how to search.

For example, P2004 means Intake manifold runner control stuck open

Yeah.....I knew only one of the three where there(and the rest seemed to be generic), but if you look at the numbers, and what is close to the other two......I think I made the conclusion that they are probably related...........and it was a good start. That's all.

I may be a little too late on this one, but I think I know what it means. Here's what my canscan says;

Code: -P2016
P2016 Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Low Bank 1 a)
Code: -P2009
P2009 Intake Manifold Runner Control Circuit Low Bank 1 a)

In a nutshell.....check to make sure your APV motor is connected. I just got those same three codes and it turns out that I forgot to hook it back up. They'll stay in the car's memory for a while, so you'll either have to drive it until the light goes off by its own, or find a way to reset it yourself.
