Cel

hate starting another "I got a CEL" thread but I at least have a story/question behind it... As you can guess I got a CEL that came on this morning. Was on my way to class so couldnt exactly figure out what it was right away. I drove to class then once I was done I went to autozone to have the code pulled, they plug the scanner in and tell me the fuse is blown so they cant check it? If that's true, can anyone explain where that fuse would be? Gonna check the manual in a sec since it's most likely in there but not too sure what it's called. After that I drove to my g/f house and then when I just left there and started my car, the CEL was gone...

Now this happened before (about a month ago) cause of the cat. Since then I've had the cat replaced and only driven 600 miles... so I'm guessing it isnt that again.. but if it was the sensor that was bad, would it just now pop up again? I've also had my oil changed which was just a few days ago. I checked under the hood (before the time I started and had no CEL) to make sure nothing seemed wrong and it all seemed fine from what I could tell. I'm probably gonna take it into the dealer tomorrow morning if I can to have them pull the code and fix it. I'm going to be be a bit mad if they say it's the cat again or if it has to do with the oil change... they wanted to charge me $1500 for the cat (without install) so if it was the sensor I would have been ripped off. Sorry for the long story/redundancy.

If you can find a diagnostic like scangauge that connects to obd port then you can read the code. It could be anything

first off, I think that autozone guy was just bsing you, there is NO WAY you cant pull the code because of a fuse ? its probably his Diagnosis tool was too old or something that does not work with CAN bus. it can happen if that Autozone u' been to never update their in shop CEL pull tool.

Anyway, it sound like a Gas cap problem, you might want to check. theres a TSB for gas cap. Im in that VIN range too, but my gas cap never threw me anything (Actually, no CEL since 10K miles I think)

so, check ur gas cap first.

ok, I'm halfway through tank so I know it's on tight but I'll see what they say. As for the autozone not being up to date, it worked less than a month ago... she plugged it in and said something is wrong cause it wouldnt turn on like it should and she used it on a car just before me... who knows... I thought it sounded odd though.. that's why I mentioned it in my post.

I'm sure it's something minor... no real loss in power or anything. The only thing (just remembered I forgot to mention it) is that I noticed a sound kinda similar to trickling water when I revved a little after not revving for a minute or so. I only hear it at red lights and such after it idles for a minute and when I rev it sounds like there's trickling water somewhere in the back. I dont have a bottle of water/wet car either... and it happens when the car is sitting still... could be nothing but figure it couldnt hurt to mention it.

The flowing water sound is pretty normal.
How many miles on your car?

depends on what kind of sound u're talking about

if it comes from the front, it should be the normal sound.

if it comes from somewhere down there, you might have a problem with the bearings (transmission)

but dont worry too much, u should be fine.

as for the Autozone lady, the tool probably not CAN bus compatible, thats why its not working.

coolant flowing ?

the thermostat wont open until it reach like 180 something f. So before that, your coolant is just cycling(actually, more like going nowhere) inside your engine.

well, went to mazda.. said they were too busy to even check the CEL so I have an appointment on thursday... I'm not that patient so I went to another autozone and had the code checked and it came up as a control module error. He didnt give me the print out, just showed me on the scanner so I now realize that I'm not sure if it was the code taht ended in 7 or 8... so it could be either the control module processor error or control module performance error. He cleared it and said if it comes up again to have it checked. I do have nitrous so if it's performance error, would that have any association with a performance error? That being said, I hadnt used nitrous for at least 3 or 4 days before the CEL came on so I'm inclined to believe that it's not related, but figured it's worth mentioning.

bump! so anyone seen this code before? it came back on and I'm assuming it's the same code. I still have the appointment tomorrow at the dealer so it should get fixed. Also, what is that law regarding warranty that says they cant deny warranty work unless they can prove something you did caused it? seem to remember something like that. I should still be under warranty but I wanna make sure if they try to deny it that I dont get ripped off.

what was the code ? it should start with a letter then followed by 4 digit numbers.

like P0123 or C1234

and There is only P, C, B, and U, stands for P = Powertrain, C = Chassic, B = Body, and finally U = Network Communication codes.

you have the code and you didnt copy it down ? .... *sigh*

I also said it was control module error but wasnt sure which so it had to be one of these 2...
P2107 Throttle actuator control module processor error ON 1 CCM ´
(See DTC P2107 )
P2108 Throttle actuator control module performance error ON 1 CCM
´ (See DTC P2108 )

Brought it in today and as expected they tried to pull the "void warranty" card cause of the nitrous. They wanted to charge $90 for a diagnostic just to tell me what was wrong but when I talked to the manager he said they would see what was wrong then determine if they have to charge me (if it was from what I did). So after getting through that, they tell me they're showing the control module code but some other code they've never seen. I was quite confused how the computer has a code that they dont know... unless it developed a mind of it's own and created a new code, how could that happen? glitch? So they tell me they'll call tomorrow... no clue what they're even doing... I've been to this dealer in the past but this trip I'm rather unimpressed so far. I'll see how tomorrow goes.

if it is the P2107 (or 08), then it means your throttle actuator control has a problem. Something like that just happened to my brother's Altima SE-R, for the Nissan you have to adjust the throttle position everytime you disconnect your power. if not after a few thousand miles you'll get this error. I did the steps for him and the CEL is not back yet.

Your dealership probably cant find the code in Mazda's book, if you know exactly what it is I can look it up in SAE's book.

They found the control module error code and confirmed that, but they're showing a second code that they dont know apparently. Why would that throttle issue come up? And how exactly do you do the adjustment?

well they're ordering a new computer apparently... so I have my car back while they're waiting for it to get in. It's being done all under warranty. Hopefully this will fix it.

The PCM will throw codes that don't exist quite often...they are errors...Kinda like Windows computer glitches.

A lot of the codes come from the scan tool not giving the PCM the expected protocols......

Clear them..and see if they come back....if it is a recurring error...and a weird code....Mazda probably knows what it means Techline seems to have a different list than they give dealers/put in the Service Manual

well the code has been cleared twice and came back on. Either way, I have my car now and they will be replacing it free... so if that doesnt fix it, I dont really have anything to lose.

well the CEL has been off but the weather has been notably warmer... not sure if it's related but when the CEL had gone off the last couple times, it was slightly warmer out I believe. It's supposed to get cool again so I should find out if that's in any way related in the next couple days... in the mean time just waiting for the parts to get in for the warranty work...
