Catalytic Converters?? Possible source of a lot of problems?
My catalytic converter recently went bad, as in it wont go past 6k rpm, it smells horrible and my car is really slow. I have an appointment tomorrow morning at the dealer.
I bought the car used and since day 1 there was always something weird with the exhaust. It sounded weird and it had that fumy smell to it, i just figured it was because it was a rotary. 11,000 miles later though and the cat's cooked.
I also noticed my car started feeling slower and that I was getting worse gas mileage than ever before within the last 2 months or so.
This kind of made me think, I wonder if a lot of people who get excessively crappy mileage, low dyno numbers, etc. are victims of catalytic converters that aren't working optimally?
Just another reason to go midpipe...

Many people have had their cats replaced myself included. In my instance and a lot of times the cat falls victim due to coil & plug failures. How many miles do you have on your set of coils and plugs?
I learned my coils and plugs are bad. I guess the coils and plugs are the source of the problem then.
61k miles. I think this is like 3 times the usable mileage of the oem coils....
Stock cat fails all the time. one of the reason is the higher exhaust temp by Rotary engine.
Meh, u have warranty up to 80K miles. no biggie.
I need to have mine check out too. probably sometime next week.
