Carbon removal????????

Hi all,

I have recently poured a bottle of ATF in with my engine oil as i am going to do full service shortly, i was just wondering if this will do anything at all or if i should do the seafoam trick everyone is talking about, i use Redex fuel system cleaner in with my fuel regularly and my rx8 seems to be running ok, any advice on the way i have used the ATF or the seafoam idea would be very much appreciated, i have found Seafoam for £23 delivered or BG44K for £15 delivered, what are peoples opinions on these??

Why would your pour ATF with your engine oil?? Never heard of that before....

The best bet for carbon removal is seafoam.

Not ATF.


The only reason I have ever heard of using ATF in a rotary OTHER than in an automatic transmission, is if the engine doesn't want to turn over after sitting for a long time, and then it's not poured into the oil, but a little bit into each rotor chamber through the spark plug holes.


And CERTAINLY not a "full bottle", which I assume to mean is at least a quart.



The seafoam is also not added to anything, but inducted through the service ports by cranking with the engine off.



Sorry, but....you are doing it wrong.

Was under the assumption regular use of fuel cleaner is bad as it removes oil that are supposed to lubricate the seals, no?

In continuous quantities, yes, it can hinder the lubrication needed.

Occasional use of a fuel cleaner does little harm and can be useful if your system needs cleaning out.
