Car won't start unless jumped

Problem started after I left the car in the garage over the weekend without driving it. The weather has been relatively cold lately (~40s) which may be a contributing factor. I went to crank it this morning and got nothing but the rapid clicking. Headlights worked, interior lights worked, dash lit up. I checked the trunk and doors to see if I might have left something open, but everything appeared to be shut properly. I jump-started the car and drove it to work (about 20 minute drive). Had the same problem this evening when I was leaving the office. The car is a 2005 model which I have owned for about a year and a half. I recently requested the starter/battery upgrade when I brought the car in for the recall (which may have nothing to do with the problem). Any ideas?

One of my theories is that the tech put in the new starter and not the improved battery. Maybe the old battery doesn't have the umph to turn the new starter when it is cold. Could there be anything to this? If so, how would I know if I have one of the new batteries?

Thanks in advance.

To tell if the battery has the oomph to start your car. Just open the box and look at it yourself

If u see some *Mazda* Logo battery, You're good.

If you see Panasonic or Interstate, you're fuxked.

But for whatever reasons. get it to the dealership. something like this should get U another *Engine No Start* TSB all over again.

I checked, and it a Panasonic. I take it, this is NOT the new, improved battery. I hope the dealership follows the TSB a little more closely next time. Oh well, the brakes are squealing again, so I will get that TSB done AGAIN, too.

Took it in this morning, and they upgraded the battery. The dealership just moved into a new building this weekend which is much improved over the old establishment. Apparantly they are participating in the "Mazda Retail Revolution" campaign. These new facilities are very nice. I was even able to play Need For Speed Carbon on the PS3 while I waited.
