Car won't idle

Hi guys,

Just seeing if anyone out there might no the cause of this problem or have had the same or similar issue.

My rx-8 has around 47,000km on it. Just had the engine replaced at 44,000km. I was driving my car on the highway when I redlined it. The car just died. Complete lack of power. Electronics were still working. I tried to start my car and in order to maintain low revs I have to tap the throttle rather quickly. If I hold the throttle down the car dies. If I don't touch the throttle the car dies.

Brief overview:

1. Redlined car
2. Car died - electronics still working
3. Start car - Have to tap throttle to maintain low revs
4. Hold throttle car dies
5. Don't touch throttle car dies

If anyone can please help me out as to what it might be it would be greatly appreciated.

My best guess would be a sensor, air, or fuel.

And I can't recall whether or not the engine light was on. And the car is not giving any codes.

Only thing done is cold air intake. The engine seemed to run fine afterthe install. A few times when waiting at a light it would just stall. For example, most of the time sitting at idle the rpm will maintain around 1-1.2k and then dip to like .8k rpm. When it did that it always felt like it was gonna stall. Only ended up stalling twice.

what kind of cold air intake?
Check the screens to make sure they're still aligned properly. Also, clean the filter and MAF/IAT sensor

It is the mazda speed cold air intake. what do you mean by the screen? Inside the intake?

yes, screens inside the intake. they help straighten air flow so that your sensors can get proper readings. If the screens are out of position, you'll get improper readings, which could be causing your problems.

There may be other issues. But, start with the easiest

Some have said that the new motors do not come with plugs, coils or anything that costs money. Could be coil and plug time if they were reused. They might have been up to the task of running the low compression engine, but not the new one.
