bouncing tachometer with flashing engine light

hey all, I tried to search this up, but I can't explain what exactly happened, so I couldn't find anything, so I'll just tell you what happened.

I had just got onto the freeway after driving a mile after starting it, I get up to speed, and then I noticed my check engine light flashing and then my tachometer bouncing from 2k or 2.5k to 3k rpm for a couple seconds, then it goes back to normal and the engine light goes off.

what exactly happened? Is my car mad at me?

change all 4 coils. any time you change plugs/coils, it's best to do all of them...

then that brings to light another question..i only replaced one coil with an oem one.. This was before hearing that oem isn't very durable. Should I replace the other 3 with oem or switch them all to bhr coils?

If you can, go with the bhr pack. Much more reliable than stock! If you can't though, replace all of them with OEM

I might just do that.. My car needs all the proper ignition it can get.

hey soldier, should I replace my starter too? I usually hold it for 5 seconds to start her up, and my friend whos never driven an rx8 before or start mine up, held it too short and it idled at like 600 rpm instead of 1k. How do other 8s start up?

first replace the coils. When were all the plugs last changed?
Do you know if your car has the upgraded starter?
Read this thread to get an idea...
Normal rpm's at idle is between 700-850

I replaced them all about... A month ago. Idk how many miles though, but I don't drive that much, so less than 1k. And I think that normal idle range is toooo low. And I don't know if it has an upgraded starter or not, nor do I know what it is.. And I'm on my phone, so limited resources. I'll check that thread out now though
