Looks like Minnesota plates.

Lol, in my experience mechanics usually check the alternator after the second replacement battery fails.

should I trade it in or keep it

Well my o5 rx8 was fixed friday last and has sat in the dealership over the weekend dure to snow storm here in CT. since my car has only 18k and I bought it new april 06 and with its history which while it isnt as bad as alot of owners perhaps because when it was built .The dealership where the car is has one 08 rx-8 like mine ,even the same color ...should I trade up to the o8 model hoping to avoid any more problems .,I have recieved the extended warrenty to 100k or 6 years I think the warrenty for new 08s is 3years 36k . Are there any 08 rx8 owners that are having engine problems .love the car but I just cant trust it any more esp if I read these forums about the problems everyone has .,what does any one think, should I keep her or say goodbye, they have a nice miata with the power retractable hardtop .they are really discounting the o8 rx8 ,Id be where i was except Id be paying for umpteen more years .,which if it is problem free ...... keep or trade????

Keep. I've got a March-built '05 and no problems at all thru 20k miles now (I also bought new a year after production). Keep in mind that most people with no problems don't bother to post, so you're seeing a disproportionate tally of woe.

Properly maintained, with a few rotary nuances to address (e.g. don't shut down cold) there's no reason you can't enjoy high reliability along with the fun this machine provides.

At this point you've most likely paid it down/off, so why incur the expense of a similar-to at this point? Wait for the next great rotary thing (16X-based).

picked up my rx8 this morning ,after being told it was ready and it was the alternator. when I started it up it ran fine but I noticed I couldnt open drivers window.,they said they brought it outside this morning for me and since it was like 12-15 degrees I figured it was frozen.,while driving the 20 highway miles home I noticed the turn signal were in rapid mode and when I got home I found neither sunroof 4 way flashers along with power door locks and drivers window did not work., called and brought the car right back and after an hour this afternoon they told me the car has electrical issues and they gave me a loaner car.. ok what are the electrical issues this car has , are there any tsbs on this or am I just lucky to have a new set of problems

Your car is suffering from defective wrench monkeys.

I can't relate since I don't have an 8 yet but maybe they need to be initialized.....Toyota has procedures for the automatic doors and such to work but you have to initialize it. That could be a possibility since your battery was replaced.

sounds like you should just be thankful you didn't have an electrical fire.

merged threads.

so someone did a bad thing when either changing or charging the battery. sounds like the battery was shorted which fried allot of things. crossed jumpers?

id be mindful of the pcm- could be effected too.

Powertrain Control Module or Engine Control Unit - hopefully this wasn't damaged otherwise your engine would run funny (if at all). For a bunch of stuff to be blown like that I wonder if water/ice got into a wiring interconnect somewhere - or even worse, some part of your wiring got pinched and you have some exposed/shorting conductors somewhere...
