Battery light won’t stay away

I have an 04 rx8, Gt trim. When the car gets to operating temp the battery light flicks on and I can’t seem to get it to stay away. Have changed body harness because battery and alternator tested good, brand new maf, no blown fuses, in fact I’ve taken most of them out looking for the issue. All grounds are good and secure, not sure what to do next.
car is slightly tuned, but it drove fine for months after the tune till about a month ago. Seems to be running rich as well. Any ideas?
Car has left me stranded multiple times, battery will drain until dead. I’ve had to jump start the car sometimes 5x a night to get it home

Tyler: if the battery is draining fully while driving that seems to me like an alternator issue.
I know you said it tested well but how long ago was that test done and what symptoms have you had since.

Bingo! So when I have had the alternator tested it was on a bench, got it tested yesterday it “passed Frustrated with autozones result I went and got a tester and battery charger from Home Depot, plugged it into the car while it was installed and running and the alternator failed. Sorry, should have since updated. Thanks for the response!

Hi All, wondering if you can help point me in the right direction here. I have done an LS swap on my 8, it's running great except for this darn battery/charge indicator light. I can't seem to find all the data I need to satisfy this light to get it to go out. I'd rather not just disconnect it if possible. No other lights on the dash but this.

Can anyone tell me ALL of the requirements the PCM and Cluster is looking at to satisfy this light? I've gone through the RX-8 electrical diagrams a thousand times and Alldata as well, but must be missing something. I've verified the LS alternator is functioning, i'm getting 14.5-14.8v when running, and getting 8-9v out of the alternator "turn on" wire out to the Brown/Red wire on the RX8 PCM, which is what the RX8 alt seems to pump out of one of the two connections when I bench test it. Also tried hooking up the duty cycle wire to the w/g line to the PCM, but as far as I've read or can tell, the rx8 alt doesn't provide duty cycle so thats not correct. Battery is sitting at 13.5v when not charging.

I'm wondering if there's another voltage sense wire that the PCM needs to monitor? Maybe a ground i missed or something? This is driving me nuts.

Thanks!

Help please!!

My car shut off pulling into the drive way. I tried to start it back up and nothing just a big click. So I tried to jump start and nothing. Got a new battery, coil pack, wires, plugs, crank sensor,o2 sensor, ignition switch, battery, alternator, ignition fuse, fuel pump, fuel pump fuse, starter, and terminals and she still doesn’t start sound like she wants to but doesn’t. I’ve tried deflooding when I press the gas pedal down I hear a pumping noise from my air intake. I’ve also got an after market intake. I got videos also. My key is also broke into pieces and I only have the chip taped to the blade but the immobilizer isn’t flashing

Did you change all that trying to fix the problem?

Problem with changing parts without proper diagnosis is that you just added 10+ extra potential issues. New parts don't always fix issues. All they do is add another thing that has changed to an already unknown problem

Do you have spark? Fuel pressure? Is it flooded?

Did you reconnect the ignition leads correctly? Did you reset the ESS sensor when you replaced it?

yeah I did and yes I pumped the brakes
the noise that comes from my intake when I try to deflooding has me puzzled because it never did that before
but the codes I got 2 months ago was p2004, p2068,and it was another one but nothing serious

If you have washout you can get reversion into the intake when you try and start it.

It's not like a Piston engine that you can loose cam timing and get mechanical timing issues that will break stuff.

I would try a bit of oil in the spark plug holes to get some sealing and then try and start it.

Is it a manual Transmission?

unfortunately it’s automatic and what do you mean by washout

the apex and side seals need an oil film to seal well. If there is a lot of fuel in the combustion chamber there is poor sealing.

So if the plug fires and the apex seals aren't sealing well you can get backfires into the chamber that has fuel and no spark.

I would pull the plugs and see of you have a lot of crap on them.... pull the fuel pump fuse or the ESS plug and crank it with the plugs out and if it's really flooded you will see the gas coming out of the holes. add a bit of oil and put the plugs back. Hook up the sensor or fuse...

Then just get a good strong battery to boost and step on the gas fully and crank it till it tries to start. Let off the gas a bit and keep cranking it. It should start then...

Don't let off the gas too early or it will flood worse. When the pedal is all the way down the ECU cuts ignition off

There is a point where you will have to let the starter cool off if it still doesn't start.. but you can safely crank it longer than you think. Also... make sure the battery is kept good... l
