Anyone ever get a blinking CEL?

I was driving my 05 6spd fairly hard today at higher rpms and the check engine light decided to blink at me for a few minutes. I turned the car off and it went away but after a few more minutes of driving it decided to start blinking again and then went solid. Did some reading and it appears that it's probably a misfire but I haven't taken it to the dealer yet. Anyone have a similar experience, if so how did the dealer fix it and how long did it take?

I went ahead and reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and then doing the pump the brakes 20 times within the first 8 second method and the CEL is gone. Car also seems to be running STRONGER and revs up much faster than ever before, very strange.

most likely a missfire. If you're confortable working on your car, you can try removing your spark plugs and cleaning them. You also might want to check the gap, and if it's not within spec, regap them.

I'll probably do that, I had no problems pulling the plugs on any I4/I6 motors just never owned a rotary before. Is it normal for factory plugs to be fouled/out of spec? Also does anyone in the area have the obd2 scanner to pull the fault codes? I went to a local autozone and their orange scanner wouldn't link to my car.

Do you have the TSB that upgrades you to the better spark plugs? I also bought magnecor spark plug wires and replaced the stock ones. I know it probably didn't do much, but every little bit helps.

I don't, sorry.

I'm not sure, I bought my car as a leftover 05 halfway through 06 (may). Before I picked it up I asked the sales to make sure all the TSB's were taken care of. I don't have any normal cold starting problems, car idles fine and pulls fine and I've never had it flood so i'm guessing I do. Might still take it to the dealer if it throws another code and have them give me up the updated plugs/wires/coils.

If anyone in the DFW area has the can scan analyzer (or whatever it's called) and can let me scan my car I'd be glad to buy some beer/lunch, just PM me

Yesterday , I was at a stop light and my CEL started blinking... then by the time it turned green it had stopped...

I've been told it is prolly just a misfire... my car loses power sometimes when i floor it at random times in the RPM range... nothing drastic but noticeable... I am going to take it in and see if they will do the starter/plugs thing.... if not I am just gonna buy new spark plugs.

CEL @ high rev

I had a CEL come on "Blinking" during a quick rev to the stoplight. It was raining when it happened. when i got to the light the CEL went out, and blinked again a few seconds later. Conserned, i drove it around for a little bit and the light went out and did not return. I made an appointment with the dealer service dept to express my concerns. they told me that there was no active engine codes stored and there was nothing that they could do. i had the tsb for new plugs, starter, and battery completed a couple months prior to this. not sure what happened, but it hasnt done it since even when rev'd high.

I have the same problem. It will come for 5 minutes or so after a hard pull to redline (usually the first hard pull after the car has been sitting for a few hours). Coincidentally, I just got the new spark plugs, starter, battery treatment from the dealer three weeks ago. I am taking it back to the dealer tomorrow but the timing of plug replacement and this problem just starting really does point to a misfire as others have suggested here.

Interesting, my blinking CEL came on when I drove it hard to redline and it was also raining hard as well. I wonder if the humidity paired with the high RPMS made the computer spazz out for a while. I kept running it hard and the blink turned to a stored code which I reset by pulling the battery and it hasn't returned since. My car is in for recall right now and I mentioned this episode so I'll see if they find anything.

At least half full, gas cap was tight. I suspect it was a random misfire but I hadn't owned the car very long and a fellow Mazda driver suggested I pull the battery to reset it so I did before I got to a dealer to pull the code. It hasn't been back on since then *croses fingers*

I had this issue this weekend on my way down to Monterrey, Mexico. I was following a Hemi charger at about 90-115 for about 30 minutes and my CEL started blinking so I slowed to 80 and it disappeared and did not return. I just had my engine replaced so everything should be new. Should I take it to the dealer? I was told by the dealer that there is no real break in procedure for the new engine and I have taken it easy for the first 300 miles until this trip.

Okay so i busted out the Actron pocketscan my pops bought me for my B-day and the code was P0302 - Rear rotor misfire detected Flash/ON 1 or 2 Misfire. A BRAND NEW ENGINE SHOULD NOT BE MISFIRING!
