Exclamation Another Engine light thred, my prblem and one wierd coincidence

Well, here it is another engine light tread, sorry, but please help, and kinda freaky, I'll get to that later.

This morning my engine light came on, so I'll be taking it to the a dealership to have the engine code read and hopefully it will be solved. I was accelerating the engine light started flashing around 90 kph and then turned solid as I slowed.

This is the second time the light has came on and stayed on, once before it has flashed under hard accleleration around the 90 or 100 kph mark. The first time the engine light came on I hooked up an OBD scanner and got an General Missfire Error(I believe code 0600) It didnt sound to serious so I jsut reset it. Was this a bad thing to do? I'm a bit more worried now that the light has came on a second time under the exact same curcumstances.

But here is the really messed up part... all three instances have happened on the same street in the exact same section, while travel int he same direction. ... I'm going crazy, because I've driven similar on the highway with no light.

I know there've been lots of problems, any sugestions and the General Misfire?? and I let everyone know what the code turns out to be this afternoon. Please Help!!

How are your plugs/coils? Do you have a Mazdaspeed Cold Air Intake?

The intake is stock.

The coils I hope are fine, same with plugs, but would that be a good place to start? I haven't checked to much under the hood and I've only had the car a bit over a month. Its been to cold to do any work under the hood, and still is.

There used to be a guide on line that had all the service materials including codes, but I can't find it anymore. I remember something about the first thing to check was a sensor., does anyone know where the manual was?

Thumbs up Mazda RX8 Service Manual

The original engine code was DTC P0300, which is a random miss fire detected.

And for tech junkies I couldn't find the orginal link, but I did you one better. I found the zip on my hard drive and put it on my site. So all you have to do is download and unzip it to a folder, and it will open up in your internet browser.

Mazda Servie / Workshop Manual contains:
GENERAL INFORMATION
ENGINE
SUSPENSION
DRIVELINE/AXLE
BRAKES
TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE
STEERING
HEATER, VENTILATION & AIR CONDITIONING
RESTRAINTS
BODY & ACCESSORIES

Download -->> http://www.dailyredline.com/rx8/2003mazdarx8.zip

Its says 2003, but should be good for '03 to '05, and should have some crossover with later models, although I'm not sure on changes.

And shhhh! You didn't get this from me, but please share the resource!

Please enjoy, I don't think its been posted here before.

Also, checkout my automotive website DailyRedLine.com

Same engine code, 0300, general misfire. So the dealership is replacing my coils FREE!! otherwise I would be going with an Aftermarket set-up.

After they're done with your free coils. I think you should also change the plugs if don't know the last time they were changed out. That way you know plugs and coils were replaced at XX,XXX miles - they're always the usual suspects with a mis-fire.

Speaking of which... I'm curious why dramatic power loss and a flashing check engine light wouldn't seem serious??? I know when it happened to me for bad plugs I thought I had blown up the engine and I was leaking rotors on to the pavement.

Agree.
Don't ignore a CEL when its flashing (especially if it happened a 2nd time after clearing it)

Yea thanks for the tip, I'm going to change the plugs.

There was no power loss, I didn't hear any misfire when it happened, and the car run fine after with no rough idle. That's why I assumed it wasn't serious, and kinda thought it would be a sensor.

New coils are going in tomorrow!

actually not wearing a shirt helps, it makes me that much lighter, and helps me accelerate faster...

i have a 2005 6sp gt, i had parked it over this past winter (approx 6 months). Before parking it i had changed the oil filled up the gas tank + fuel saver drained the anit freeze. BUT when i went to start it this spring i couldnt get it started for the life of me, after a few days i discovered that my plugs were shot. so after checking the coils and replacing the plugs the car fired right up. after about a week of normal driving i put in a injen ram air intake. After bout another week i got a flashing cel which turned soild. i checked the code and it was a missfire code. i figured it was due to my intake change. after about another week the cel returned. i checked and rechecked everything. has anyone else had the same problem? could this be the same issue hes having? could my new plugs be gaped incorrectly? any suggestions help would be appreceated
