In another thread I located a fellow did splice in a second trunk antenna in place of the exterior antenna, and kept it inside the trunk (since I reckon that one isn’t designed to sustain exposure to the elements). He mentioned the reception suffered.

Considering the reception will suffer regardless, I’m going to attempt the resistor route myself.
