AC Amplifier Question

I have a 2004 that is not under warranty anymore, as of about 2 months ago. I found a TSB that pertains to a problem that I am having with the AC system, fluctuating from cold-cool-cold when the AC system is on. The TSB calls for replacing the AC amplifier. I called parts to see how much this part is because I was gonna replace myself, and they told me that it is 614 bucks!!! Can this be true?? Does anyone else have this problem? Is there anything that I can do to remedy this without spending 600 bucks? Help!!!
Thanks

Or check the junk yard.

All AC go from hot to cold. This is normal on the RX8. Search and you will find this out.

Thanks for the help....or lack thereof. I'll go search somewhere, instead of someone who knows a possible solution, answering the question that I asked.

Sounds completely normal to me.

My AC, from the day i bought the car with 100 miles on it, has always been somewhere between tepid and cool when sitting at idle, and ice cold when moving at highway speeds. I don't think the condenser can work very well when shoved in front of the radiator like it is, soaks up the heat from the rad while you're idling leading to less then cryogenic output. Especially if only one of your radiator fans is going at the time.

Thats my theory anyways. You could always wrap your AC lines in that mylar heat reflective junk if you don't like my theory. Lots of people have done that. Some even say it made a difference.

You bought a sports car, not a Cadillac. There are going to be compromises for performance.
