OH 2005 RX8 Single Click when Starting

Hi,

Sometimes when I try to start my RX8, it wont start. When I turn the key, it makes a single click noise and then nothing (engine never attempts to crank). If I wait for a period of time (30 minutes to a few hours), it will then start with no problems. This does not happen too often but I have yet to find a fix for it. I have checked the battery and it is fine. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't find any problems because they could not replicate the problem. If anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated.

Brad

Check ur negative terminal, it might seem like its tight but if u can turn it with ur hand, its not and u might have to replace it with a new one from autoparts store, cuz mazda does not sell negative terminal by itself, u have to get the whole battery harness, so retarded.

If its not that, ur starter might have a dead spot, its hard to replicate and only thing u can do is replace it.

I had both issues before, replaced the starter, and the terminal i just turn it until it find a sweet spot, then i use a vice grip to clamp it, unless i move it, it works fine for me.

just a thought you might want to check the ground under the battery box/intake tray

Ok I will give this a try when I get home. I did notice that the cables were a little loose (not too loose but with some force I could get them to wiggle a bit) but they wouldn't go any tighter so I may have to get new ones.

If they wiggle AT ALL, then they aren't secure enough. Don't just tighten them down though, take them off, clean the clamps, clean the posts, and re-seat securely.
