2005 RX8 Shinka Edition Radiator Problems

I have just recently purchased a 2005 Mazda RX8 Shinka Edition from a buddy. I was driving it to the mall and then next thing I know, a cloud of smoke rushed out from under the good. I pulled off to the side of the road to discover that the radiator had gotten so pressurized that it shot the radiator cap off of the reservoir. It broke the tread on the reservoir that holds the cap on. I know that I need a new reservoir but how can I fix the pressure problem? What could be causing that and how expensive would it be to fix that problem?

First, this should be in "Troubleshooting". Second, you provided hardly any information. Read the entire new owners thread, but particularly this:

After that thread, read this thread for all the possibilities of what it could be. You may not have the same end fix, however in this thread I deal with every single possibility that yours could be, and for each I include the testing and fix methods.

radiator problems

We just had our radiator replaced thankfully we have a service contract. My radiator light kept coming on and off and finally the service department bought a new reservoir. Unfortunately they found they needed to replace the radiator itself.

We also had the engine "blow up" on us and we found that the 2005 engine was recalled. Mazda will replace that for you if it hasn't already but beware they may charge a nominal fee for this so be sure to negotiate that first. No surprises.

We have also had to have the LED screen on the dash go nuts on us mainly when it was hot outside, showing nothing but gibberish. We had the whole LED unit replaced 3 times but we found out at the end that it was the ***** that were at fault. Of course, this was all under the service contract as well so not much to spend on that either.

I love my car but it came with problems. Look on line for RX8 Shinka 2005 problems and see what you find so you can trouble shoot before it is a problem. Check this site out:

Also, there is a trick to reset electrical issues by disconnecting the battery and reattaching it again. Reboots something. You could probably google this or see other posts regarding this.

Good Luck, it is a great driving machine and loves to be driven.

The problem was probably the coolant bottle

It wasn't a recall, it's a 8yr 100k warranty on all RX-8s, there should be no fee outside of replacing items that the warranty doesn't cover.

You can also check out RX8Club.com, since we have a handle on basically every problem this car can run into, and how to fix it yourself. That discussion is filled with misinformation.

This just resets some of the learned parameters, you need to do the 20-brake-pedal-stomp to reset the rest.
