2004 RX8 engine issue when cold

HI

I am looking at buying a 2004 RX8 through the trade. The garage bought the car on trade in and said it was running fine as the engine was warm at the time. They left it for a few days and went to move it and realised it had an engine trouble when cold. Their mechanic looked at it and said it feels like there is no compression in the engine. But if you leave it for a while it will run ok. He cant figure it out and just put it down to the engines being rubbish. They where gonna scrap the car, but I have a felling the problem may not be as bad as they think. Does anybody have any ideas on this. Its the 1.3 litre engine

Any more details?
It may just be flooded, or the engine may be weak.
Might be the starter, the cat, the ignition...

Hard to tell with the little info you provided.

A. It is a first Generation car so your post should be in the series one section.

2. You give very little info, from what I gathered, it runs really bad when cold but smooths out when warmed up.

D. Has an actual compression test been performed?

5. How many miles on the car, any idea of the service history on it?

2a. If they are scrapping the car, what are they willing to sell it to you for?

F. worst case scenario, the engine is done and needs a rebuild, if so, it might be worth buying for scrap fees and having the engine rebuilt.
*edit*
4g. Depending on mileage and when it was originally sold, the car may still be under Mazda's 8 yr. 100K mile extended engine warranty.
