Hey guys got kind of a weird problem ive just started noticing tonight on my way home from work. I have a 2004 rx8 automatic with 95,000 miles. When I have it in manumatic mode, the 1-2 shift is fine but when I shift from 2 to 3, the rps jump almost a grand before it shifts. The 3-4 shift is fine as well. Any ideas?

 

First check the fluid level but it sounds like a band or clutch pack isn't engaging right away; a transmission shop should be able to pressure check it for you.

 

Actually both my prior 2005 AT RX8's did this on occasion. It occurred under load at high RPM's. The dealer new not what was happening.
Mazda thought that the line pressure was more than the shift solenoid could take under certain conditions. Never really had any thing bad happen because of it. Internally or operational with the trans.
When was the last time the fluid was changed?

 

I have a AT as well and Im having this exact problem right now, dealer change the fluid help a little but didnt fix the problem, I going back to the dealer on monday I let you know what happen

 

This is a common issue with the AT's. Mazda has no fix that I'm aware of.
