I bought my RX8 used. It came with 1 key and 1 remote. The Remote does not work period. I bought a new switch blade key fob remote.

My question is, am I able to program it with only one key? There will be two keys after I have the new one cut.

I know to take the key to get cut at the locksmith.
I plan to try the DYI programming after getting it cut. So will the remote work?

Moved to troubleshooting.

No, you need 2 keys to program a 3rd yourself. You will need a dealer (expensive) or a Mazda software equipped locksmith (usually cheap) to program a 2nd key.
