Wiring of front 02 sensor.... Help

I Searched but could not find a diagram showing the correct wiring of the front 02 sensor to get the correct readings from the catalyctic converter .

Having burnt out the stockcat , i replaced it with a Aftermarket Metalcat stainless steel one , i was told that it was indestructable well after only 9000km it burnt out .
I have found a complete second hand stock RX8 exhaust and decided to put it back on , at least the original stock cat lasted for 57,000km , but i need to know how to correctly wire up the front 02 sensor as some of the wiring has melted and came off .

Any help greatly appreciated .

Ben

Thanks , is this the right diagram ? because i believe MM pointed out that the RX8 Manual was initially incorrect with the wiring diagram of the 02 sensor :shocking: :boink:

I thought the stock cat had a government mandated warranty?

I'd have a straight pipe fabricated to bolt in the cat position and swap in a cat for a few days just to pass emissions testing.

Of course it would be loud.. :)

Wired up rear O2 Sensor everything seemed fine i cleared the ECU after 3 km the car goes into limp mode engine light goes on :banghead:

Once again i let engine cool down reset ECU Start her up as soon as cat gets to a certain temperature she goes into limp mode .

Any one know what to do , have i wired up the sensor wrongly ?

You are trying to rewire the FRONT O2 sensor? The four-wire one?

Like Teams .pdf shows, the blue/orange and white/red wires go to the heater, you may have got the other two reversed, the colors are very similar (and I'm color blind...)

I am after the rear 02 sensor wiring , its shown on the diagram but is it correct ?

Front, back, I don't see your problem - they are both on Team's .pdf?

That is a page from the manual, and it's correct....

Fail...

OK, Team did the hard work in post #2, so I will explain.....

The square marked Front Sensor has 4 wires -

heater power, red/white
heater switched ground, light blue/orange
sensor in, violet
sensor out, pink

The square marked Rear Sensor has 4 wires -

heater power, red/white
heater ground, red
sensor in, yellow
sensor out, black/red

The black/red wire may be useful for an air/fuel meter. Don't fuck with any of the others.

Isn't the sensor before the cat going to be the most accurate reading, which would be the pink wire for the a/f gauge. correct?

SANTI 12-29-2010 03:50 PM

is the sensor in the signal wire and the out the ground?

An o2 sim will not work to prevent a cel from a midpipe, before you get too far into it.

Thanks but Can anyone confirm this. First a spacer won't work now a sim work. Why is a rx8 so different then other cars. What's so special about our o2 sensors that we can't do somthing like that. I figured just the engine was different then other cars but now components on the car are special fml.

You can also search yourself if you need to see more threads. Some people have had some luck with spacers but it it always short lived. I have nothing but the o2 sensor there and it takes 400+ miles for me to get a cel usually.

Im not sure if im doing this correctly, but here goes nothing.

I recently became the owner of an 07 Mazda Rx-8, apparently it was easier for my little brother to just get a different vehicle rather than fixing the one he had previously purchased.

Turns out all it turned out to be wrong with it is it was flooded. But it sat untouched, basically undisturbed from December 2019 to November 2023.
thats when I was blessed with the vehicle.. At that point it was up to me too figure out the problem.. Now im no mechanically inclined female by any means. The basic automotive knowledge if that is what i come equipped with... That being said, the car has a straight pipe in replace of the cat because some lowlife who thought they needed it more than I did cut the cat off and along with it they took the o2 sensor that was with it... & im not what you called financially equipped to even beign to be able to afford the parts i prolly should use on the vehicle. But someone had mentioned to me that i could take a regular O2 sensor and attach a connector piece myself that I could later on attach to the connector piece underneath the vehicle.. One is that true? & two if so how do I go about attaching the connector to the sensor it self?
