No CAT on RX8, Need O2 SIM??
No CAT on RX8, Need O2 SIM??
I have a Greddy SP1 catback exhaust and since there's no catalytic converter I was told that I would need a pair of O2 Simulators.
I asked the shop where I could get a pair and they said look online, I did and didn't find anything...
Can anyone help me find a pair to use in my RX8?
I know they are illegal for street use but mine is for the track only.
I get horrible GAS MILEAGE ALSO BECAUSE ALL MY FUEL IS BEING BURNT UP SINCE THERE IS NO CAT! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP PLEASE!

Uh. these dont work on the RX8 as the PCM actively tests the cat. Some folks saw that some extenders worked for a short period of time, but to the best of my knowledge NONE worked for more than a month or so.
The good thing is that you can buy an AccessPort that you can use to tune the car yourself or get someone else to tune it (Look up MazdaManiac and AccessPort) and you can shut that CEL off forever.

I was thinking of being an *** to this one (FRESH MEAT!!!) BUt I think I may have pissed off a mod on some of my more recent n00b rampages. Hence, my more informative post.
But the OP should take your post to heart.
If i follow the steps you said i get that light shut off forever will it improve my gas mileage as well? Im currently getting between 180-200 miles a tank if im lucky..?
will this fix my problem? Also how much would something like that cost?
thank you for your help

^some ppl say it does some say it doesn't!....to the OP yeah getting the AP will help in gas mileage some if u tune it to be leaner as everyone knows how pig rich our cars run....
but if you want a quick, cheap, easy fix for a CEL just invest in the black electrical tape.

To improve upon Swoope's already sufficiently communicative post, an accessport PLUS the ATR software can selectively delete CELs. Some tuners delete basically everything; personally, I delete just what gets turned on based on my modifications (no cat, no sec air injection...)
What is even better, you can get your car to run, basically, however you please. I should note that there are many ways you can set all the numbers, and a much, much smaller number of ways that will allow your car to run for any length of time. Even fewer are the number of ways that are preferable.
I.e., don't do this yourself if you dont know what you are doing.
As for improving mileage, "It Depends!"™

I get horrible GAS MILEAGE ALSO
So which is it?
For track only - who cares about gas mileage? How many races last over 100 miles?
...or is it actually your daily driver, and you don't care if it's illegal?
See, you can't fool us RXers.....

was not really aimed at you. i think i have covered that already.. just if you cover it up you will never see it blink..
it will do that if you have a solid light and something else happens..
beers
Well what are spark plug foulers? Never heard of them? Also my main concern is running super rich. I mean i know 8s in general run rich but mine is rediculous lol
i smell it just burning up all my gas ;[
i just want to be able to get better gas mileage..better than 180 -200 miles a tank which equals like 13 - 14 mpg. I know i dont have a CAT but what are other solutions to fix this problem without having to drop 1k for a cat system..?
all information helps
thanks,
the n00b

You sound like you need more of a tune-up i.e. de-carbon, spark plugs, plug wires, and cleaning of throttle body, intake tract, and MAF.
De-cat shouldn't yield poor mileage....at least not on these cars. You're thinking of old OBDI technology where a detection of a failed O2 sensor will trigger the car into going into Open-Loop mode.
Our cars have VERY advanced OBDII emissions systems and having no Cat will only trigger the CEL. It WILL NOT throw it into Open-Loop (unlike pre-1995 cars).

can anyone elaborate on this? Or verify
well i just installed new spark plugs and coils, the car is basially tuned up. I talked to a gentlema at a muffler shop and he said i get poor mpg bc of no cat. No cat =s no oxygen sensors so the car is injecting more gas than needed which is causing my terrible mpg,
can anyone elaborate on this? Or verify

no cat = less restriction = better gas mileage

Dude, you need to do some more studying. If you have no cat, you have a mid- or race pipe. It almost certainly has a bung for your o2 sensor If it doesn't, your sensor is disconnected, and you may be running in open loop all the time. THis could give very poor mpg.
All in all this situation is a complete cluster.
This thread is ALL OVER THE PLACE! Focus dude.
What exactly are you trying to do (problem you are trying to solve) what exactly are the symptoms and EXACTLY what is your set up. Did you do this yourself? What midpipe are you running.
