Why so little trouble with this car???
Since I joined this forum almost four years ago I've had practically no issues with my 2005 RX-8 (and similarly few with my 2002 Mazda6). My tailights were replaced under warranty due to moisture condensation a few years ago and have been fine since. I have done some mod's, but those were by my choice and not directly associated with an issue (e.g. clutch pedal bracket installation as a pre-emptive to an issue I might or might not have).
Sure, I've had all the TSB/MSP's performed and tend to 'over maintain' my vehicles, if there is such a thing, but my engine is strong and I've had none of the maladies cited around here.
Just lucky I guess.

I also have an '05 Touring VR Manual.
To date, I've had the following repairs:
- Water condensation in taillights. Mazda first replaced the gasket, then I complained that there were water spots that couldn't be removed without taking the unit apart. After some discussions with MNAO, I got a set of brand new taillights with the updated gasket.
- Excessive shaking of the car at idle. Mazda replaced the motor mounts with their revised units with a larger heat shield.
- Car struggled to start. I replaced the battery with a Braille B2015 unit, new terminals, BHR Ignition Kit, and new spark plugs from BHR. It starts too damn fast now!
- HVAC Control broke and only hot air was blowing out of the vents. Mazda replaced the unit under warranty.
Those are all the issues I've had to date. The car pulls very strong and I still manage to get about 240-260 miles to the tank. I currently have my stock OMP setup (going to go with the SOHN adapter soon) and premix.
I think as long as you keep an eye on the oil, coolant, and basic maintenance items......this car is pretty reliable.

yeah, sometimes my car is almost TOO good and makes me wonder why it doesn't give me as many problems as some of my friend's cars.
To date:
- Engine mount replaced under warranty
- Transmission grinding into 2nd gear - replaced under warranty
- Condensation in tail lights - replaced under warranty
- Power Steering went out - quick DIY fix, bought a new wiring harness just to be safe
That's about it really and those items covered under warranty I could care less about since it was fixed to my satisfaction and didn't cost me a penny.

He's as bad as Can
Right now the only problem I have is the 5'+ piles of snow at intersections, driveways and parking lot entrances. The RX-8 is too low, you have to practically pull into the road to see oncoming traffic.

I stole it from another board I visit. I liked the movie and I am an huge beetlejuice fan so when I saw someone with an Beetjuice / Avatar mixup I copied it. But to me it looks like someone took an photo from Avatar and photoshopped Beets face on it.
EDIT: I found the original photo, wouldn't take much effort to Photoshop someone else onto Jake's face.

2004 RX-8 GT with 30,000 miles. Hmm... let's see.
New engine (replaced under recall)
Clutch pedal broken, and car had to be towed.
Now, little heat - "heater core needs to be replaced"
But I STILL love it, despite all the warts!

The only problem I had with my car (series II bought in 2008) was a punk at work who keyed crosses and lines all over the car, and then he got fired. It costed the insurance company $8000AUD to repaint the whole car.
