because its an idiot light . it doesnt tell you the pressure all its telling you is that you have the minimum amount of pressure needed turn it on. when it drops it is most likely too late

Because it's not a guage, it an 'yes there is some' oil pressure indicator. Just looks like a guage...you then jumped to a wrong conclusion. Tricky Mazda huh? Sorry

Just hope it doesn't start moving around on you. Start to worry then. If it's rock solid (and not at the bottom or very top) you're good.

No way

You mean Mazda was to cheap to put in a real oil pressure gauge. Geez must have cost them $15 to do it. Sure would be nice.

There is no oil Pressure Sender on the engine, only an Oil Pressure Switch that turns on and off at about 0.5 kg/cm2

I remember a Triumph GT6 I had growing up and all the extra guages (cam angle dwell, etc) I had mounted. The more guages I had, the more there was to worry about.

It's indeed the idiots who were complaining about "fluctuating oil level". I remember my '94 Probe GT had a real oil pressure gauge but Ford changed that to an idiot gauge with MY '95 due to the same reason
I'm wondering if it was somehow possible to make the gauge in the RX-8 to work like a real one... it'd need a new sender signal feed for sure. However I'm sure it's not that simple to do this. Maybe not even the gauge is able to function as a real one, let alone getting the proper signal to it.
For the Probe GT, the new gauge wasn't working properly with the old sender - so if you swapped the sending unit from an earlier car into a 95+, the gauge was all messed up. That's why I think the gauge in the RX-8 might be the same way, and can only work indicating an on/off situation. Getting a proper pressure sender might not work then.

strange i didnt think GM was usign a real oil pressure guage any more. on any car. seems most they dotn bu tthey do on the Tahoe. They also have an idiot light that will light ont hedash in case you arent payingattention to the guage.

hey i hear ya on the climate control- you can get it in other countries but not here? doesnt make sense to me, the rest of the things you mention come down to price and market. SUV buyers want everything they can get in them. and the price

2005 Tahoe 2WD Price Range: $36,765.00 - $43,440.00* + a mind set of saving weight is the reason for not having many of theothr "accoutrements " that can be had on an suv

I used to have a 1991 Jeep Wrangler that had a real oil pressure gauge the only thing that was a pain was the oil pressure sending unit had to be replaced every 6 months.

Miatas (MX5s) from 89-93 had a real oil pressure gauge.

Miatas from 94 to 2005 have the same dummy gauge RX8 has.

The reason for this already explained by zoom44 in a previus post.

My biggest dissapointment when i bought my RX8 was this dummy oil pressure gauge.

Why can I get self adjusting headlights

Leather int., heated seats, a decent radio system, the best engine in the world, a fantastic paint job, but still get a crappy A/C system. (That would not take much to upgrade to a decent system).........Just the way it works talking to myself, maybe the engineer came from my favorite college. Needs more LED lighting too.
