Where to get plugs, coils, and wires?

I could spend hours searching, so I'll just ask. Where's the best place to get plugs, coils, and wires? Also, what brands are most recommended?

I went to the dealer today and they confirmed that I have a misfire. He thinks that the plugs, coils, and wires will solve my problem.

Also, any thoughts on a WIX cabin air filter?

if you feel like spending a little extra, I HIGHLY recommend the BHR ignition system. Those coils should outlast your car as opposed to the shitty OEM coils that sometimes burn out in 7,000 miles.

If you decide not to splurge on the BHR kit, their spark plug wires are very good and cheaper then other aftermarket brands such as racing beat.

Good info, thanks! Do most people generally buy their plugs at mazda? I will probably spend the dough and get the bhr coils and wires. Where is a good place to buy these things the cheapest?

Black Halo Racing is the only place to get them as it's their product.
I wouldn't recommend buying plugs at the dealership unless you are REALLY friendly with the parts department as their prices are much higher then most. (I've heard of dealerships charging almost $150 just for the plugs)

Thanks! So, basically, it's $579 total from BHR and that is the best it gets for everything?

If money is tight you can get the stock OEM NGK plugs and wires for about $130 and I've seen coils(4 with life time warranty) at some auto parts store for a little more then a hundred. So for about $250 you can do it yourself in about an hour.

Yeah, I'll do it myself. Just trying to figure out the best route to go. I've got 1.5 years left of engine warranty, so I'd kinda like to get a new one before that drops out, so do I really want to spend the money on this one and try to take really good care of it? Or, do I just treat it poorly and shut it off cold etc. I don't know what the better plan of action is.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Take care of it would be the smart thing to do....I've had mine all most eight years and have two months left on the warranty.

So maybe I shouldn't drop the big bucks on the bhr coils, wires, and plugs? I could just go with the cheap ones I suppose for now.

You cannot go wrong with oem. Some people think they're cheap, but they are not so. NGK is an upgrade to some other plugs and that's why Mazda puts them in our rx8.

Any reasons why I shouldn't buy one of these sets? Thanks again guys!

I would go with the bhr coils, people really seem to like them. They have a good warranty(lifetime I think? check the site) if they do somehow break. They are BETTER than stock coils, that is why they cost more. If you have the money laying around then get the BHR ones. Goto autozone and buy your plugs, they sell them for $19.99 each.

My dealer just asked $200. Fortunately I had a set in the glove box that I had paid $80 for on a group buy here. No reason to pay any more than $80 for a set. Even Amazon has them within that price.

JT - if those e-bay dealers are reliable and you want OEM stuff, they look reasonable. But if you're not going to buy from BHR, check out Rock Auto. They're a real parts store with a good reputation and good prices. Their e-mail newsletter is also a lot of fun.

Well, I just finally placed my order. I went with rockauto for everything. I got all the parts for $230 shipped and it looks like there may be a limited lifetime warranty on the coils, assuming I read it correctly. Thanks for all the input guys. Hopefully the stuff gets here soonish so I know if that is my problem. Thanks again!

I brought it to Mazda and he hooked it up to a computer. It was reading occasional misfires. It mostly just stutters and shudders at idle. Also, it chugs a little at highway speeds. He was almost positive that coils would solve my problems.

He wasn't criticizing Monchie's recommendation of the OEM plugs, just other parts of the post. Monchie's posts and the responses are a lot of fun to read. This place would be very dull without them.

But...the recommended plugs are the OEM NGK. You'd need a specific reason to use anything else.
