I've got a 2006 and have been seeing the occasional coolant level warning - either when I'm starting up or when I've been on the road for a while. I see from other threads that this might be a known problem with a faulty sensor, but meanwhile, I'd like to check the level and I've got some coolant to add to top it off.

I've never added coolant to car before so I haven't a clue how much it needs, what the mechanism is like, etc. so I want to use the indicators to give me a sense of putting in a little or a lot, etc.

I can NOT figure out where the indicator is. Is it an embedded F and L in the plastic? Is it something inside the reservoir? Outside? Front? Back? I tried looking for a picture or detailed instructions about where the heck to find it and I've got nothing.

This is explained in the manual. Fill the container that is in front of the battery till the liquid is just below the F. Do this on a cold engine. Too much coolant will just spill out, its not a big deal.

 

The F and L and the corresponding lines are molded into the plastic, and are pretty big, but are placed on the side where they can be amazingly hard to see.

If you see an FL22 sticker on or near the fill cap, your car is using Mazda's "green" coolant, which is supposed to last 10 years. If you need to add coolant, go to your dealer and buy a jug.

Thanks, this is good info. I had looked in the manual but looking again I see in the illustration that they show them but the illustration is crap and the lines just disappear. Now that I know where to look and what to look for, I'll try again when I get the car home and let it cool. Thanks!!!!

 

Too much COULD cause a problem if it shorts out the fans and/or power steering rack
