What's the magic word for N flash?
Took my car to the dealer for oil and filter change. I asked them to give me the N flash. As I was reviewing the bill there was no mention of ECU upgrades. I asked the service mgr and he told me he couldn't do it because he didn't have the flash yet. When I asked him to get it he said as soon as an RX8 owner comes in with a complaint that is addressed by the flash he could do a RO for it. Once the 1st 8 owner has it done at the dealer for a legitimate performance issue, he could then do it for anyone else if they request it.
So what is the "problem" that the N flash is supposed to correct?
Thanks!

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the "N"-flash still falls under the MSP04 campaign. M-flash was the first flash released under this campaign, so I imagine that if you've got a fully functioning M-flash (ie. no problems), they won't flash you with the N.

Come down to Olympia - my tech said he could do it in 15 minutes. Which dealer was this?
Nemesis, I finally got my CZ unit and Harrison CANscan. Would like to meet up one weekend with you and dmp if he's available to discuss tuning or perhaps a dyno pull. I could probably hit another dealer for the N flash in Tacoma or near you

buggy M flashes? There is a checksum that is ran when you flash. No such thing as a small buch of buggy M flashes. Just not possible. All M flashes would be the same. If there is a problem with the flash, you can always re-flash the M, no need for a different flash.

I complained of hard starts and poor fuel mileage, and I got it. I don't know if it was due to the flash, or just because my car has more miles on it and better fuel economy (only about 4,000 miles), but it seems to have improved my from about 15.5 mpg to about 18.2 mpg.

Rotary Powered Decepticon
I hope Razz was just being sarcastic. If the N Flash didn't do anything, why would there be a thread on N Flash (with 8+ pages) and how it's doing crazy stuff to the AFR, mileage, etc?

yeah i just took it in basically and said i have hard starts sometimes and they said ok and did it at congressional mazda. i never had any problems there at all, as in terms as in needing to get something done. the only thing i wondar about is y my brakes are still making noise after going in for it 2 times already. im taking it in again on monday. also my engine coolant light came on maybe 2weeks after they serviced it? i thought they do a check for the levels on all that stuff but i guess not. besides that i think the place is ALOT better then the service at Darcars near cherry hill road.

okay. i talked to the tech at mazda in brownings mazda. "alex" he is a close guy who comes to our meets in cali. he has told me that there is no difference in M to N. the N flash is just an update with all the files. it has no difference. only "if" they have the old pcm flash from L to N then yes. it will have improvements.

-Idle dropped from ~950 to ~750
-Idle is smoother
-Gas mileage has gone down slightly
-These are not "butt-dyno" observations
-Acceleration seems smoother through the lower RPM's
-Shifter vibration has been lessened
-Car seems a bit more responsive
-These ARE "butt-dyno" observations
So, something has "happened" to the car, especially considering the idle and gas mileage changes. The rest is subjective. Believe me, the people I take my car to would not lift a finger to do anything else to it except what was on a work order. Crap, if they saw a loose spark plug wire, they wouldn't touch it unless Mazda reimbursed them for it.
