TX What is wrong with my RX8 --experts in here!!

So my issue is, after I go driving for about 10-15 minutes and warm the car up, it starts dying when coming to a stop. Also, it has trouble keeping the engine running while stopped, even in neutral....especially with the AC on.

So far I have....
changed oil
transmission flush
swapped fuel pumps
new engine
new spark plugs
new o2 sensor
cleaned throttle body

What do I need to do next?? This problem has been plaguing this car for entirely too long.... I took it to Mazda and they changed the engine due to low compression, and then when it didn't fix the problem they told me it was the fuel pump so I had that replaced as well. Please....someone help.

plugs and coils changed?
How is your cat?
Have you cleaned your air filter and MAF or eccentric shaft sensor?

Hmmm, it is a possibility that the reman engine is bad. I hate to say it but it happens. It is just rebuilt using used parts and some new parts. It is not a new engine. One of our local guys had his engine replaced only to have it fail a compression test a week later. This has happened to a few others as well and one of the reman contractors was dumped once the Mazda reman factory in VA was setup and running at full tilt. You didn't list coils as being replaced but bad coils don't usually cause warm stalls.

What dealer are you going to? Tell them to ******' figure it out. Really though if there are no check engine lights or obvious vacuum leaks, oil in the intake, filthy MAF sensor, etc. then the symptoms are indicative of a low compression motor.

afraid you are correct--same thing happened to a friend of mine. reman engine--2 k miles--another reman engine
so that is a starting point--tell them to do compression check.
then make sure all your vacum lines are on /tight and are in the correct spot.

air filter looks good, MAF is good. cat is fine according to mazda.

eccentric shaft sensor? joke?

So the engine they used to replace it with could be bad eh? Well, I guess it's off to hold my breath on another compression check I guess. Just seems odd that the new engine did the exact same thing straight from the factory.

it probably is a bad engine but you might want to check the coils and wires as well, depending on the mileage.

65k miles, mazda looked at the coils and told me they were fine. I would assume they looked at the plugs as well....

But I now at least have a little list of everything I am going to make Mazda check out....including the eccentric shaft sensor

While true I have had coils fail when they get warm (bike not RX-8 coils I should add). Started fine, ran fine until it gets warm and then starts miss-firing at high rpm, gradually getting worse and the rpm at which it happened dropping.

Did they clean/test/replace the Oil injectors?
Are you still consuming oil?

that is strange... most dealerships won't replace the engine until the plugs, coils, and wires are changed. Some also require a decarb before they will run a final compression test to fail a motor...

Yeah it's weird, on my first engine Northpark didn't make me change anything and then the second time they changed everything. luckily I had an extended warranty that paid for the cat, coils, plugs, etc.

Mazda should improve the rotary engine in the future, because of these hassles about engines being replaced. If not, the rotary engines won't survive because people won't buy cars with rotary engines anymore and the problems they have, and specially those people who had experienced with these engines in the past and present.

one of the simplest thing they can do to improve the quality/lessen the chance of Engine/Cat/ fucked up and save them LOADS of warranty replacement is ---------------- MAKE THE COILS STRONGER/BETTER !!! Just like FC coils !!!!

It's time to stop being "cheap" and PAY Denso(I have no idea who makes the coils, but Denso is one of the biggest OE in Japan and they have been supplying Mazda lots of OE parts) to design something that can last at least 10 years. Sometimes it seems like its going to cost you a lot of money, but you can't buy fame, you need to earn it, this is one of the ways to earn fame. With good enough fame, you will earn money, a lot of money.

I mean I have no issue changing/replacing/*cough*abusing*cough* the coils/warranty. but it gets annoying sometimes.

u should understand, these engines are hand build and if the builder is in a bad mood ... or he/she is a moron and just assemble without checking everything clearly then ...

shouldn't they test the fuel pressure first before they even change the engine ?

this is another known issue that they "fixed" on the 09+ cars. The Fuel pump is garbage. it's not that hard to fix, just replace it with a better one ... but it's really annoying.
