Just finished the greddy turbo install tongiht. When i turned the key halfway to check the led like the instructions say, i noticed one was yellow. The light that said interaction was yellow, and the other one was green. Is this normal??? Also, i noticed a very high tone humming sound, and i dont know if thats the turbo or not b/c i didnt think it would spin at all with the key only turned halfway. Is any of this normal or supposed to happen? All I know is I don't know what the ecm is that the directions say to disconnect when turning the igntion, so i just am not gonna start her up till i get sum more info, thanks.

I don't have a turbo so i can't help you much, but I can tell you that the high tone isn't the turbo. You need exhaust to spin the turbo and you need the engine to be running for exhaust

did you disconnect the battery?
look through the manual and there is a section where it tells you what to do after you have re-connected the battery.
check with the greddy ppl first on that as well

Yes, both lights on are normal. One is blinking and the other is just on.

Humming sound is probably the airpump. Also, when you turn the car off, the airpump will also stay on (the time it stays on varies).

Yeah, it says ECM fuse in the directions. I never knew which one they were talking about either.
I just turned started the car and let it idle for a good 30secs. DO NOT rev the car, let the turbo / oil lines fill up with oil. Also, check for OIL LEAKS.
After the initial startup, you can rev it slightly and take a test drive if no leaks.


LAST THING, whenever you disconnect the battery and reconnect. Once you start the car, you will have the DSC and TCS lights come on. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. This will get rid of one of the lights. Then turn the car off and then back on. The other light will be off now.

hrm... yah you should def look up whats wrong... and maybe have local turbo 8 owner look at it for you... cuz you don't seem too knowledgable if you think the hum might be from the turbo...

are you sure you even put the turbo on??? or a friend?

its kinda weird that you don't know that exhaust has to be going through it to spool it...

ahh come one man, he said he did not think it was the turbo, i have talked with him, great guy just new like everyone else was at one time. He had the courage to tackle the tubo install by himself on jackstands with little or no experience. Lets cut him a break and give him a helping hand! BTW Farva, Adrian above was probably right, he has been turbo for a long as I have been on here.

Yah.. I don't mean to sound too mean.. I just think its unwise to do an installation like this.. without knowing at least basic turbo operation...

but... at least he did it... i'm still waiting for a better turbo... greddy isn't look too good to me... but if people continue to have no problems.. i might get it... i don't need crazy power... just a good kick in the rear... hehehehe

well it's pretty obvious that the turbo spins from wasted exhausted...thats kinda the whole idea behind it. thats why i said i didnt think it was the turbo b/c it wouldnt make any sense. But i do think it is the air pump making the noise b/c ive looked it up on another forum, so thats whati think it is. So thanks for thinking im an idiot everyone, but really thanks adrian1 cus this makes me feel alot better hearing it is most likely the air pump. And thanks chris for the help along the way.

I believe the whine you hear is the emanage. I think mine does that - a very high pitched metalic whine. I notice it only when I have the car off, but accessories on to program the emanage.

If you think YOU are scared, listen to MY story. I spent about 11 hours one weekend installing the kit on jackstands. I didn't even have a crawler, so my back and sides were really bruised by the end. I had the entire kit on, and then freaked out. I freaked out because I had just taken my only means of transportation, voided the warranty, put a very intrusive modification on, and did it all myself, having never owned a turbo'd car before.

So, the very next day, I took it all back off without even starting the car! Well, it only took me a few days to gather the cahones again. I mean, I should have at least taken it around the block, right? Well, the next weekend, I bought a crawler and went back to work. The second install was much better since I had experience! :p I did some things the second time, like install teflon tape on the oil lines, that made it a much better install the second time around.

It only took 8 hours or so the second time. This time, I forced myself to start 'er up. The smoke and fumes are HORRIBLE! Talk about giving you a reason to panic! It looks like the whole mutherfarkin thing is on fire! FInally, I lowered it down and took it around the block. The feeling was INCREDIBLE! So much more power and torque, even with the stock maps!

I did these little checkout runs for a day or two before deciding that I probably wasn't going to be stranded. After about 3 weeks, I stopped checking for oil leaks every time I got in or out of the car. There were none. Now, I'm tuning and going ***** out all the time! Its a great kit, and I have no worries about reliability anymore. Its just too much damn fun!

Anyhow, you deserve kudos, Farva. Not many people have the cahones to do what you did. Once you get over the initial paranoia, you are going to have the time of your life driving this thing. Welcome to the club. You should take pride in the fact that 99% of the other 8 owners will just be too chicken to go FI, much less to tackle the install themselves, on jackstands for christ's sake...

Holy crap man, you took the whole kit back off? Wow, you must have way to much free time. 11 hours is pretty good though for installing the kit, it took me about double that.

After I finished my installed it was like 3 in the mornining. Took a short sleep went to work. All day I was just thinking about starting her up. So I decided to come home early and start her up then OIL started leaking ahhaha talk about freaking out. So I also ended up yanking the turbo out and look for the source. Put the turbo back on and made sure everything was tight. Started her up again and OIL start leaking again hahhaha.. :D I was like WTF is going on???? After the panic attack I claimed down and started to think. And kicked myself when I found out it was the oil line.

Haha. The girlfriend was pretty much pissed off, since I had wasted the whole weekend and had nothing to show for it. It only took 11 hours since I had spent a lot of time researching exactly what had to be done and making sure that I had all the tools in place before starting.

haha bummer man, but my oil line is leaking too...with tefflon tape! it's leaking from the threads though, its the **** eyed part after that. Its like it's bent in a position that puts stress on it and leaks there. anyway, it's hard to describe, b/c i have other issues. My battery is now dead! i'm charging it with one of those charge boxes that u plug in, but if that don't work i need a new battery. I think it died b/c it sat for so long. Anyhow, just another obstacle in the way. If it is dead, i spose i'll have to get a new battery.

You need to wrap it 3-4 times around with teflon and make sure the T joint is in their tight. I found it made it much easier to get to if I removed the clutch bracket and the coolant hose.

well i had alrdy done that. but it's not leaking from where the tefflon is, its behind that...the part at the end of the line. Maybe that makes sense?? cus the threads are fine. I meant to say it's not leaking from the threads.

Make sure its line up then tighten it. I notice mine wasn't line up and when I tighten it and all looked ok. Then when I move the line around it was lose to the touch.. I had to make sure it was line up then tighten it.. Hope that helps.

I'm willing to bet that you set your battery right on the concrete, thats why its dead not sure how it does it but it will kill your battery. BTW if you hold down the gas peddle it goes into de-flooding mode which will not inject fuel into the engin aka it wont start just turn over. this is how I got around the fuse thing. And yeah the oil lines are a double ought bitch.

I'm not sure what is going on, but my car is backfiring like crazy. Also whenever my car hits boost, it just stalls out. Wtf is going on?!?

It's nice to know that others have gone through the same experiences. It took me close to 24hrs to install the whole kit, over two weekends - on jack stands with the creeper. I was surprised that even with all the air tools, metric and standard socket sets, stubby wrenches etc etc, I still had to go out and buy a deep socket to get the oil sender out.
I also get a "burbling" in the exhaust that I thought was an exhaust leak, but I cannot find a leak. I have experienced the car stalling when coming off the gas at about 70mph. I also get a flat spot at about 4500 rpm. Any ideas?

I never started it without the interceptor. I never actually ran the emanage, so I have nothing to compare it to.
