when someone chooses autocrossing as a hobby( or any other petrol-driven hobby) their actions speak much louder than words. No lack of non-petrol hobbies out there to choose from. and NO you don't HAVE to a world-class athlete to participate. just get UP and MOVE.

 

your all arguing about a decat as if its some tottaly immoral evil thing to do on a car that destroys cats its perfectly logical look at carburated cars they dont need a cat. and you know damn well those things are polluting as well.

I agree with you for the most part without quite so much fatalism & Gloomy Gusness, more of a realistic resignation.

I watched for years as Louisiana's coastal marshes quickly disappeared.

It ticks me off that somehow California and Florida's coastlines are deemed more valuable, oil & gas drilling are stymied at every turn and who cares about stoopid Loosiana anyway?

Meanwhile, fracking is allowed with no regard whatsoever to environmental impact.

Actually, Team doesn't drive an RX-8. Well, outside of short autocross runs. Trailered to and from events I believe, sits in the garage between events.

I may be inaccurate, but that is my recollection.


Still, he purchased a car specifically to consume petroleum products for fun, so the shoe still fits.

 

I paid $1150 to avoid polluting the air and still have the performance of a catless midpipe, and you could just as easily say that by keeping my mileage down (under 13k miles total on a 2005 model) I'm doing my part to keep the petroleum use to a minimum

my other two vehicles are ULEV Hondas if that matters ...

A cat-equipped car isn't "no emissions", it's "lower emissions". You are still producing those emissions just for fun, not to mention the gas, oil, tires, and the environmental impact of making the car in the first place.

If you are serious enough about protecting the environment to feel a need to rail against people who run catless, perhaps you should get rid of your cars and use a bike. Pick a past-time of something like jogging.


If you aren't that serious/extreme, then you really don't have much grounds to complain about people running catless.




I'm sure STX rules that keep you from going catless have zero impact on your decision as well.

fyi a pedal driven bike uses rubber tires made from crude oil and can only be burned as they do not decompose. same for the tires on your prius.
