I have just been to my local Mazda-dealer and they confirmed my suspiousience that there is water in my lub oil.
I've seen some smaller spots of grey thick grease on the oilstick earlier,but now it is nothing but that.
It is so much thick grey grease that it is no longer possible to see how much oil there is.
I have also noticed that the engine coolant has decreased.

Is this something that others have experienced with the 8?
I'm going back to the dealer on monday to check more,but this is of course a big concern for me.

The car is a European 192 hp 5-speed manual with 12900 km/8000 mls on the meter.
Do you think I should ask/demand for a new engine?

Warranty is 100000 km/3 years.

Saw the pictures,but mine are much worse.
I can also mention that I live in Norway,in a region with extreme amounts of rain.
1,5 meters in the last 3 months.That can of course lead to condensation,but in this scale I think is not very likely.

Perhaps the best bet to see if it is indeed an internal leakage is to look at the oil as you drain it. If the oil coming out of the pan is milky, then you got a problem to investigate further. If it is normal and only milky in the localized area of the dipstick or oil filler neck, then I'd lean strongly toward condensation.

Based on what you said about the color of the oil and the coolant level dropping it certainly seems like you may, indeed, have water in your oil as opposed to the milky stuff many have seen on the dipstick. Like Max5 says, if the dealer drains the oil they will be able to confirm water in the oil versus condensation in the dipstick tube. If water in the oil is confirmed, I would definitely ask for a replacement engine. Let us know what they find and what they decide to do about the problem.

In case of engine replacement,is the price difference between "LO" and "HO" engine big?
Will there be some complication with exhaust or air-intake if a change?

Sorry to read of your water ingression, sounds serious.

I don't think anyone in North America can answer your swap question - we don't get the 5 speed/Lo power option here.

I had my 8 delivered to the local dealer today and they soon after cane up with good news.
They say there is an international note about this sent out last year.
The essens in this note is that the pipe for the dipstick is on the outside of the engine almost all the way down to the pan,and therefore the inside of the pipe is more vulnerable for condens than on "normal" engines.
The grease inside my pipe was just the same as in yhe note they had received,and they also found that it was only inside the pipe and not in the pan.

This problem will be solved by changing to an insulated pipe and also the 2005 dipstick.

It's no surprise that I'm a happy man now
