DYI: Finding/Pushing the trunk release button

This is the best and easiest method I've found to find and push the trunk release button on the inside of vehile (not the one on the key fob )

This DYI starts assuming you are sitting in the dirvers seat.

1. Take your left hand and turn your palm up.
2. Reach down the left side of the steering column.
3. With your middle finger and one to the right (not you index finger) feel for the hood release (usually very easy to find.)
4. Once you find the hood latch (release) keep your hand there and stick out your thumb as though you were hitchhiking.
5.Rotate your left hand towards the door in a semi circle arcing towards the front of the car.
6. At this point your thumb will be resting on the trunk realease button.
7. PUSH IT.

Hope this helps...
If all works out you can do this with your eyes closed

It's a new feature. Stealth trunk release. Mazda thought the kids would find it "phat."

The buttton is hard to find. I pretty much just use the fob. Not a bad idea to develop "muscle memory" for where it is.

I think the reason for the button being so hidden is because they did not want people hitting it accidentally. That's because originally, the Trunk Monkey was supposed to be a standard feature on all RX-8's :D

Yeah, it isn't the best thing to operate on our RX-8. Good tip! I actually do the same thing and I just noticed it now that you mentioned the method.

When I first got my 8 and I was showing it to my roommates, I couldn't find the trunk release for a full minute. I looked like a retard

Funny I was just thinking if I locked my keys in the trunk how would I get them out. I did not know there was a trunk release from inside. Have to look tonight to see if I can find this hidden button.

I have a midget in the trunk that pulls the inside release when I honk the horn twice. Seems to work pretty good I think...

Usually I just press the trunk release on the alarm fob. Is that wrong?
