So my trunk got broken into and they trashed the keyhole, completely useless. As a result I've got that fogged taillight problem and will have to replace that as well.

I know not a thing about locksmithing but if I buy a new one, can I get the lock keyed (for god knows how much) to fit my current key, or do I need to get a new key that matches just that lock.

Also if I can key the lock for the current keyset, is there any reason I can't hopefully buy a used lock and do the same?

how about you just get a new taillight and leave the keyhole alone.

i dont think i ever used my taillight keyhole. not even to check if it works.

 

Apologize for not being clearer, the trunk lock itself is trashed. Not the hole it is placed into.

 

ah. you mean the latch the trunk clicks into?
