Cool Trouble starting when hot

Please someboby help me, I have just bought a 04 rx8 and everything runs great, it drives ace, runs smooth with great power etc. The only problem is if I have been driving it for appx 20 minutes so it is full temperature then turn it off to get petrol for 5 minutes, it takes appx 10 minutes to get it going again. I have tu turn it over for about 20 seconds at least 5 times to get it running. I have only just bought this off a dealer so is still under the 3 month warranty, I spoke to the dealer and he said it is probably the coils or plugs and to bring it back and he will have a look at it. The engine management light came on too when I revved it over 5000 revs and has also stayed on. Could this problem be coils or plugs or something else. It starts within 2 seconds cold and runs like a dream.

Welcome to your new-to-you RX-8 and RX-8Club.

It's now 2010 and as you might expect most every potential issue has been discussed and resolved.

Advanced Search - "starting when hot" will yield much insight.

Most likely you have the older/slower starter (it was upgraded mid-2005 production) and/or you have low compression (carbon buildup). But as you cite it's best to first replace the coils/cables/plugs to eliminate that troubleshooting variable.

Thanks m8, it was the starter motor. I had the garage replace it as still under the used car 3 month warranty (thank god £400) and now runs ace

The cel light comes on when I rev over 5000 revs, GK Mazda in Sheffield have told me that it has an aftermarket cat on which is doing it's job fine but causes this light to come on. I lose no power or notice anything when the light comes on but it is just annoying, they have told me to get this sorted I would have to pay £1600 for a new cat etc but if I can live with the light on to just ignore it. I am going to live with it. It ha just passed all emmissions tests so I will stick a bit of insulation tape on my dial screen to cover the light up.

Thanks Degs
