They've FINALLY FIXED the AC (maybe)
Had mine replaced yesterday and while it was only 80 degrees here yesterday I have to say the AC is very much improved. More like what I would have expected from the AC. Very glad I had the work done....
you should read the other thread about this.
Had mine done. Seems better. Not a huge difference, but noticable. I don't think that it's any 'cooler'. But it doesn't fluctuate to warm anymore. It just stays in the 'cold' region. I'm happy.
I get blasts of cold, but that darn thing is shutting on and off very very often, and the blasts of cold are are minimal. This thing feels just like my old car did when the freon was low. On an 80 degree day recently, I had that sucker full blast, and it was not exactly what I would call cold. I know on a 90+ degree day this thing will be virtually useless. Is this a defect, or just the crappy a/c system that comes with the rx8. I guess I'll call dealer and see, but I won't hold my breath on it getting fixed.
I had my a/c amp replaced today. The improvement was significant. Before I usually ran the a/c with fan on 3 and temp control all the way to cold. It would blow cold for a few seconds the throw in some warm air while the compressor was still running (weird). Now it gets cooold. On the way home today the fan was on low and I had to turn up the temp control a little to keep it from freezing me out of the car. Since I saw the mechanic had the hood up I suspect he adjusted the freon level as well. Regardless of what actually fixed the problem I'm glad to have the a/c working properly. If I hadn't seen the TSB on the forum I would have continued to assume the a/c was weak by design and lived with it.
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I was going to call the dealer and ask about this fun cool-warm-cool with the A/C, but I wanted to check the forums first to see if anyone else was having the same problem. Now I can walk in with a copy of the TSB and show them what to fix! Too awesome!
i had my ac amp replaced today and on a 85 degree day, it seems to cool the cabin more effectively. at least the warm and then cool air recycling problem is gone. the real test will be on extended highway drives at high speeds...but so far, so good.
