I'm against anyone sifting things in my car. Way too messy.

One reason for the lack of an aftermarket short throw is the 09's already have one.

Short throw shifter is standard in all MT RX-8's since it was created.

What we call short throw shifters are 30% shorter than the short throw that comes standard.

Richard Paul (Axial Flow) is developing one for the '09s. Just wait a little longer.

Im still quite confuse about this one.

Does that mean we already have some sort of Mazdaspeed short shifter pre-installed?

cuz I always wonder, they sell that in japan but no one really talk about it in the US.

No.

The standard issue RX-8 MT has a "short throw shifter". That's why your shifter in a stock RX-8 doesn't feel like a truck. The throws are indeed short.

Then mazda put out a shorter throw shifter, they made the throws something like 17% shorter than the standard short throw shifter. This is the mazdaspeed STS.

Then AFE designed his own short throw shifter after the MS STS and made his even shorter, I think it's 28% shorter or something. We call this the AFE STS.

They're all short throws. AFE's is the shortest available and also cheaper than the MS STS. That's why no one talks about the MS version - the throws are longer and it costs more, so there is zero reason to get it. I've only seen one or two people get it and they were collectors buying all mazdaspeed stuff for their car.

To illustrate my point, here is the invoice for my 2004 RX-8 from mazda's website:

http://tyrannical.org/old/rv/rx-8/invoice.html

Under 'Engine and mechanical':

6-SPEED MANUAL OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION W/SHORT THROW SHIFTER

Doesn't the 09 model use the same gearbox as the mk3 mx5? So could you not just use the short shifter from one of those?

(Don't quote me on that! It's something I heard on the UK forums )
