Temporarily Disabling Driver's Door Switch
 

I found this rocker and installed it to interrupt the driver's door switch. When I'm detailing the car and listening to tunes it makes the car think the driver door is closed and turns off the chime. When I'm done I can flip the rocker to reenable the door switch so it functions normally.

No Gomez, I read your DIY. I wanted to maintain function and turn it off just when not needed. :)

Not much. I pulled loose the bottom of the rear door panel (did not need to remove) and drilled a small hole on the side for the rocker. There is a single white/red wire going to the switch in the rear door. I cut that wire, then wired the rocker switch in line. I bought the switch at Radio Shack (275-693).

Nice neat job with the switch. :)

However, for owners with less DIY skills who don't need this ability all that often, you can always use a low-tech el-cheapo solution like mine.....

I'm sure that that most owners could obtain a similar part from a branch near them... :rolleyes:

Q: Is pine acceptable or does it need to be a hardwood, like oak? ;)

Personally, I prefer a nice piece of Australian eucalypt, but I'm sure that just about any wood would do the job. ;)

Of course, for anybody living in a stick-challenged area, there are many other options. Just about anything can be used to wedge the button and convince the electronics that the car door is closed.

Vegetarians may be attracted to the carrot option shown below, cooks may prefer the kitchen spoon method, and parents may gravitate towards the toy giraffe solution....

They all work. :)
