So I just purchased the new RX8Strakes footwell LED lights.. Followed the instructions, it was daytime so i saw they worked and left it at that. Came outside later (when it was dark to check them out) and they were ON still! so i checked everything, all the lights.. Turns out I tapped the damn wire into the LEFT TURN SIGNAL wire... what a pain in the ass! So they're permanently on, and when i hit the left turn signal they both blink! It would be just fine and interesting if they would go OFF when the car was! I tapped the blue/yellow and green/black wire... Should it be a different one? and will the LEDS still drain the battery if the LEDs are in backwards? Thanks!
Can't you use this? I did...https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=66707.html |
I would just use the wire at the glovebox light .

Actually I used this one...https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=66713.html

Yikes this makes me afraid to do my footwell lights now... i just got them in...
|
anything you splice into can easily be "un"spliced.. don't worry WTB
|
It was all fixed, thanks to Dannobre.. I screwed alot of crap up, and don't make the same mistake I did of "Cutting" wires and all that great stuff... It took about 4 hours to fix and re-do it all.
|
well at anyrate, how does it look now? and any suggestions on making installing easier?
|
As much as I hate them...the wire taps are the best options for installing a low current draw application like this. \if you follow the wires out of the door...use the wires from the courtesy light just after it comes into the interior above the fuse box.
It is a bit of a PIA to get at the wires...but very easy if you take out the panel and the footrest..it gives you lots of room |
i had the same problem (blinking lights) what had happened was i hooked up to the right colored wires but in the wrong harness. try looking for another harness the pics can be confusing
|
ugh ok dan i need your help now... i ordered the footwell lights from the same website as Tubing, i had them working but they wouldnt turn off as i shut the door... ive been working on this for 4 hours... ugh please help
|
wow, i can't believe you guys are having this much difficulty even by following instructions with color pictures...
WTB: you probably tapped into the wrong harness...look under there above the dead pedal and find the BLUE wire with RED stripe, and the DARK GREEN wire with BLACK stripe. There is a light green one with a black stripe. DON'T USE THAT ONE. Find the 2 and compare and you will know which one to use. The correct harness is that large one that is wrapped with electrical tape that runs up from the dead pedal then goes up to the dash somewhere..it's behind the fuse box.....you will find the correct wires that come up from the middle of this harness.... sorry its hard to explain with out pics, but seriously it's right there :) |
Ill try to find it rex after i get my car back from getting its 3rd new engine in a one month span... thanks again
