Is this title ok?
Are we still talking about front license plate holder? Here's what I done to mine; simple, yet secured.
Don't like to give them a reason to pull me over, so . . .

On the 8 I think the overheating story has some believability. Frankly I wouldn't use the front plate for that very reason. Plus, it looks dorky.

THANKS seikx8, that's *exactly* how I plan to mount mine... IF I decide to mount it.
Like others, I plan to keep it under the seat. If I get pulled over, I plan to tell the officer that the car did not come with a provision for a front plate, but that Mazda is working on it. Usually a plausible explanation like this one, coupled with you having the plate in the car to show the officer, will be enough to get you out of a ticket for just this offense. It won't, however, get you out of the ticket if it's an add-on (secondary citation) with a primary voilation for something like speeding.
Leaving it off will sure frustrate the photo radar vans in my area too. :D

Pretty sure it'll be darn near impossible to remove the front grille without taking off the front bumper. However, it looks pretty easy... check out this thread for detailed instructions:

I plan on doing this in the near future, and covering ALL the openings with something like this, painted black:
